I don't think the weather helps much does it Donna, I would really like to be eating more salads but it seems far too cold for them at the moment.

Donna
23-05-2006, 08:24 AM
Exactly that Emma!!! Will order a nice chicken salad from the cafe over the road from work today - that is being good and no breakfast.

Good luck today, by the way - not that you will need it of course!!

EmmaG
23-05-2006, 08:26 AM
Thanks Donna, this one is with two people but I think I will be ok :) I have nothing to lose.

EmmaG
24-05-2006, 05:33 PM

Donna
24-05-2006, 05:35 PM
Ditto with the not eating well... think I was destined to lose one stone only.

Had decent breakfast and lunch, but just ate a Mars bar!!!

EmmaG
24-05-2006, 05:38 PM
lol well I had a Asdas nutty chocolate bar and a mini bag of chocolate fingers ;)

Donna

Emma and Donna.........did you reach your target weights?

Donna
08-06-2006, 10:03 PM
Well Mags, I have lost a stone. Not my target but it seems to have stalled at that since I had the kitchen installed.... I have not managed to get back onto the diet completely. Need new willpower I think.

Am happy with a stone lost though so not all bad.

Mags
08-06-2006, 10:13 PM
Losing a stone is absolutely brilliant Donna...you should be well pleased with that!:D

EmmaG
08-06-2006, 10:18 PM
I am still at 9 stone 5lb :) so ideally I still have 5lbs to lose. However with work and stuff being so hectic I haven't managed to get back into the swing of things. Once next week is over with I am going to start low carbing again :)

Mags
08-06-2006, 10:29 PM
Well, I reckon you have both done very well!:D

Donna
08-06-2006, 10:52 PM
Thanks Mags. Just need to get on and lose some more, but not taking away the fact I have lost a good amount so far...

Just need some enthusiasm!

If the net is a clear loss, then that's a win. Probably better off taking it one step at a time and eventually getting there, than feeling guilty. Especially when there are good reasons for the plateau.
The weight you're aiming for is just an idea, is it not? So you have something to aim for? The real goal is feeling better about yourself and feeling in control. IMHO, that is.

Donna
18-06-2006, 10:55 AM
Stuck at 1 stone lost!!!!!

Where has the willpower gone????????????????????

EmmaG
30-08-2006, 06:39 PM
Ok I have now got my willpower back :) New job has led to some bad eating habits, so I have now been low carbing since yesterday :) (starting weight was 10 stone!! lol)

I want to get down to about 9stone 7lbs for my holiday so I have to be very very good :)

Donna
30-08-2006, 06:42 PM
Its amazing how it creeps back on isnt it!!!

We must be in the same "zone" Emma, as I started low carbing today!!! lol!!! Think I am still under the 10 stone so have been not too bad, but my original goal was 9 stone at least. Have had a few months break but now want to get on with losing some more weight!!!

What was you before 9st 3ish??? If I remember correctly?

EmmaG
30-08-2006, 07:02 PM
how spooky Donna :) well I sort of went down to about 9 stone 5-7 lbs, now that I have started I am fine, eating brie cheese and olives today and going to have some nice lamb and salad oh and some green beans ;) lol

Yes it is amazing how it creeps back on, but I haven't been eating very well recently lol and my skin knows it!!! lol

Donna
30-08-2006, 07:16 PM
Well I will enjoy your company again on our further battle with the bulge!!

EmmaG
30-08-2006, 07:19 PM
Oh yes definately!! I was hoping that you had started low carbing again ;) It is nice to have a bit of support :)

Donna
30-08-2006, 07:29 PM
Okies!

Will do a daily post of how "good" we have been then to make sure we are both doing it!! And post our weight loss. Will weigh myself in the morning for a starting point for me.

EmmaG
30-08-2006, 07:30 PM

EmmaG
31-08-2006, 07:01 AM

Donna
31-08-2006, 08:16 AM
Well I thought I was still under 10 stone, but I weighed myself this morning and am 10 stone 1llb.

So back on the diet again with full steam ahead!!! (Forgotten what to eat though!!)

EmmaG
31-08-2006, 09:05 PM
Well that isn't too bad Donna you were fairly close :)

Had a ham and cheese salad for lunch, and lamb, chicken, green beans and salad for dinner. Don't feel hungry at all which is good.

Donna
01-09-2006, 07:25 AM
Yesterday I had scrambled eggs for brekkie, an Atkins breakfast bar and some cheese and ham for lunch and dinner was chicken salad with mayo.

Being very good so far, but its because I am not at work. The guys feed on bacon sandwiches and burgers and chips EVERY day!!!!

EmmaG
01-09-2006, 07:27 AM
Morning :)

Well you could always eat the bacon and throw the bread, same with the burger and no chips ;)

Off to Tescos in a min to get a salad for lunch.

9 stone 9.5lbs today :)

Donna
01-09-2006, 07:29 AM

Naomi
01-09-2006, 08:06 AM
I've jsut started back on the Atkins today. I've put it off and put it off but I've gotta do something to help with my weight lol

yola
01-09-2006, 09:19 AM
I'll be heading back onto Atkins once baby is born. I suspect I'll be bottle feeding (if last time was anything to go by) so it won't matter how soon I start.

So I shall be stalking this thread regularly looking for inspiration from Emma and Donna ;)

Donna
01-09-2006, 11:05 AM
The more the merrier girls!!!

Been the "Donna and Emma" thread for too long now!!!! lol!!!

EmmaG
01-09-2006, 05:11 PM
woohoooo Well done Donna!!!

Yes it would be great if we had a few more ladies low carbing :)

Well today I have had brie, olives, very plain salad, some macadama (sp) nuts (they are very low carb for a big packet ;) ) this evening I am going to have pork medalions and some green beans. I hope tomorrow I will have lost a bit more as I have been rushing around today and I didn't even have my lunch until 2pm!!

EmmaG
02-09-2006, 08:50 AM
Hi everybody,

I am now down to 9 stone 8lbs today :) popped to M&S and got some butter chicken (£2.49 and enough to feed 3 people (it was half price)) and some veg and salad stuff, so hopefully I will be good over the weekend.

How did you do Donna this morning?

candyshandy
02-09-2006, 10:40 AM
I am now on week 6 of the maintenance programme of my diet - its now low carb/low gi. I need to read up on the gi bit.

I lost 3 stone in 11 weeks and I've lost a further half stone since i've been in maintenance :)

dinahsmum
02-09-2006, 10:43 AM
I think a low Gi diet is as sensible as any I've read about.

There is a new idea out wheer you eat as much as you want on one day and restrict to 25% or 50% of normal on the next. Scientists who've been testing it on themselves have lost 35lbs in 12 weeks or so without feeling hungry, apparently. I'll see if I can google any more info and edit it in.

Edit:There you go!

"Doctors Devise New Diet That Can Help Asthma And Arthritis

(The Independent on Sunday 06-19-06)

Scientists claim to have discovered a new diet that not only ensures weight loss but also tackles diseases and could even prolong life, according to a new report.

Doctors and scientists, who have been testing the diet on themselves for three years, say it can have health benefits on diverse conditions ranging from asthma to heart disease.

Dr James Johnson, who co-wrote the report with colleagues from Stanford and New Orleans universities, said the diet involves eating normally one day and then cutting food intake the next day to between 20 and 50 per cent.

Dr Johnson, who reports having lost 35lbs in the first 11 weeks of being on the diet, said: "We have observed improvement in a variety of disease conditions, starting within two weeks, including insulin resistance, asthma, seasonal allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, infectious disease, periodontal disease, and cardiac arrhythmias."

For people who want to lose weight, according to the report, the diet has the psychological advantage of not subjecting them to permanent food deprivation. But the scientists said what they call "up-day, down-day" dieting also has health-promoting effects.

"For three years we have experimented with an alternate day pattern of eating in which intake is limited to 20-50 per cent of estimated daily requirement one day followed by ad lib eating the next day," the report said. "This alternate day calorie restriction appears to have health-promoting effects in the absence of weight loss."

The report added: "Based onabroad range of calorie-restriction studies in animals in which virtually all diseases are delayed, prevented or ameliorated by calorie restriction, we propose that this dietary pattern will delay, prevent or improve a wide variety of human diseases, including multiple sclerosis. ' "

EmmaG

I am small busted anyway and when I get down to just over 9 stone I do notice that I lose a bit there.

candyshandy
03-09-2006, 05:36 PM
Its quite strange really because I suddenly have this huge addiction to fruit!? I hardly ate any before the diet and now can't get enough of the stuff  ;)

Oh well I suppose its better than crisps and chocolate (ermm well thats what i keep telling myself)

EmmaG
03-09-2006, 05:52 PM
Nothing wrong with being addicted to fruit :) No doubt it is because after loosing the weight and not eating the sugary food perhaps you had before your body is now craving a more natural sugar.

EmmaG
04-09-2006, 05:41 PM
9 stone 8.5lbs today

Donna
04-09-2006, 09:05 PM

Suspect you girls may have seen this but it's an interesting article
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5302054.stm
Seems there is good science behind the increased protien diet.

Donna
06-09-2006, 08:11 AM
Not seen that before DM, and an interesting article. It is true that I do not feel hungry on this diet, so less likely to over eat.

Thanks for the link.

9stone 12 still today!!

EmmaG
06-09-2006, 05:56 PM
Well I was up a bit to 9 stone 9lb this morning, haven't eaten too badly today but due to rushing around I had a chicken wrap, macadama nuts, and a low carb bar lol

Donna
09-09-2006, 08:34 AM

I started WW AGAIN last week and so far so good. I feel less bloated but I really have a reason to lose some weight. I've recently beeen diagnosed with angina and am waiting an angiogram. At 48 that's not funny so I'm being very good at the moment! Will update you on Tuesday!!:D

EmmaG
09-09-2006, 09:49 AM

Sorry to hear about the angina Ruthlynn.

Ruthlynn

I'll be REALLy happy when I reach 9 10! i'm only 5ft 1" so all the extra weight sits around my tummy and thighs. I was 8 stone before I had my children but doubt I'll reach that ever again!

Donna

I am only 5'2" so can sympathize!!! Small people do not carry weight well  thats why I am trying to get rid of the excess!!

Want to get to 9 stone and then I will look at it all again! See how I feel then. 10 lbs to go!!

Ruthlynn
12-09-2006, 06:52 PM
I'm sure you'll get there Donna, quicker than you realise! I know for me that reducing my carbs is the best way but I do get so hungry. I also have an underactive thyroid which doesn't help matters!

Ruthlynn
19-09-2006, 03:54 PM
Down half a pound today! Not a lot bt going in the right direction.....it's definately carbohydrates that put my weight on so I'll have to cut down a bit more! Hope everyone else is doing okay!:D

Donna
19-09-2006, 04:56 PM
Well I am 9 stone 8 today and got into an old suit for work for the first time. Is a Principles suit and the trousers are a size 10!! Bit tight but wore them as my others are too loose and are being held up by a big belt!!

Donna
25-09-2006, 04:55 PM
I am stuck on 9 stone 8 lbs at the moment - a few heavy nights out and also got a free Chinese restaurant evening on Wednesday so not looking good for this week either.

Oh well, at least I am not going back up!!

EmmaG
25-09-2006, 06:01 PM
Thanks Mags, I find now if I am careful it does come off fairly easily.

You are doing very well Donna, it is good to have a week or so that you don't worry, as you said as long as the weight isn't going up ;)

Ruthlynn
26-09-2006, 04:16 PM
Down half a pound this week.....it's soooo slow! Any tips to speed it up? I've started doing some exercise so maybe that will help.

TTFN

Donna
26-09-2006, 05:33 PM
Exercise is always a good one to speed it up - as you can tell I dont do any!!!

Drinking lots of water helps apparently.... but I just think slowly is better than not at all!

Ruthlynn
26-09-2006, 07:15 PM
Yes, you're right Donna....slowly is better than none at all! I'm fairly limited with exercise as I have angina and a pacemaker. I exercise at home so I can go at my own pace and stop when I need to....exercise classes tend to be a bit scared of me!!!

Donna
26-09-2006, 09:10 PM

Donna
03-04-2007, 05:05 PM
Well I have been low carbing since Saturday. Have put some weight back on and have been lazy with my cooking (although havent resorted to convenience stuff).

Is anyone else doing a diet at the moment??

Mags
03-04-2007, 05:39 PM
I'm starting (again:roll:) after Easter!! :-D

Donna
03-04-2007, 05:40 PM
I wont get any choccies at easter - just hope I can resist the childrens!!!!

Will make them eat their easter eggs all up in one go!!!!

EmmaG
03-04-2007, 06:39 PM
No eggs for me. I am trying to eat healthy and now I have the juicer I am juicing loads, but it won't be low carb as I will be juicing a lot of fruit.

Donna
03-04-2007, 07:00 PM
Are you at your ideal weight now Emma? Is fruit the new low carb???!!!

EmmaG
03-04-2007, 08:04 PM
No unfortunately not at my ideal weight, I am about 10 stone (and going down :) ), but as I am doing a lot of exercise and in a couple of months I will be back to 9.5 stone, and I will be happy :)

Not sure that fruit is the new low carb, but I did a lot of juicing about 4 years ago and loved the way it made me feel. Just have to be careful it doesn't set off any cravings.

Breakfast has been a juice (fruit or veg)
lunch - Jacket potato and coleslaw
dinner - meat/fish with veg, or low carb pasta, low carb lasagna, curry.

Donna
03-04-2007, 08:09 PM
I must admit I do miss fruit on the low carb diet. I have snuck back to 10st5lbs (not completely put it all back on, but not far off) so decided to get things in order and lose it before I end up where I started!!

EmmaG
03-04-2007, 09:03 PM
Good idea Donna :) I am hoping that having loads of fruit and veg and more exercise I will lose a bit more, soon it will be summer and low carbing is then a doddle (salads etc :) )

I must admit it hasn't helped me being so busy at work, I tend to grab a quick sandwich/roll and bread really doesn't agree with me !!! lol

Donna
04-04-2007, 03:33 PM
Yes agree its too easy to grab a sandwich!! Am doing ok so far this week and the food I am eating is very nice. Will be harder once the novelty has worn off I guess!!!

Chicken with brocolli and cauliflower florets and cheese sauce tonight (if I can find the cheese sauce recipe!)

EmmaG
04-04-2007, 06:37 PM
Cheese sauce recipe....cheese (grated), cream, butter, cream cheese (if you have some) throw all ingredients into a pan and heat on a moderate heat until cheese has melted :)

I have got chicken and bacon and veg tonight :) and some juice ;)
