Really hope this sorts everything out once and for all Alex x

I'm with DM on this one, I'd be inclined to not switch diets until you have them all back up to full par as it were but that's only a personal opinion. Your vet may advise differently..

Good grief! I never know where I am with this kit. From not getting off the litter tray, now she hasn't gone near it except to wee! She hasn't done a poo since wednesday night, which I presume is probably because there isn't a great deal of nutritional value in the white fish on its own 9at least I hope that's what it is). Broxi on the other habd has been a bit more runny the last few days but I'm not concerened because I was warned that could happen with the ab's! And Cooper, well I always knew he had a cast iron stomach, lol.

Teddie's going from one extreme to the other, isn't she! But at least, no runs!

Pebbles was the same when hers finally stopped!!

Just out of curiosity, what food were you feeding her while she had the runs - both wet and dry? Don't have the time to read through all these to find out!!

alexgirl73

We tried dry to begin with, then went on to wet but never both together (on the vets advice), ow she's on white fish alone. My personal preference is to have her completely on dry.

What brands of food have you tried her on?

because there isn't a great deal of nutritional value in the white fish on its own
Alex you don't mean that do you? There's plenty of nutrition in the fish (though not 100% of what cats would need if that was all they were ever given) - the thing is that there's very little 'roughage'. I'm sure that's what you meant. So there probably won't be a lot to come out. And she needs to get back into kilter after another bout of diarrhoea.
As long as she seems well in herself, which seems to be the case ......
Keep up the good work!

Thanks DM, lol. You're right, that was what I meant. She still hasn't 'gone' but what goes in must come out eventually!

BT, she's been tried on RC Kitten and Sensitive, HiLife, Pro Plan kitten and sensitive, whiskas kitten and adult, Hills i.d vet prescription, plain chicken and rice, and now white fish on it's own. A veritable fortune has been spent on bags and tins of food that have been discarded, lol. (oh and I forgot Asdas own Tiger range as well)

Teddia has finally done a poo!!!!!!!! It looks great (you know what I mean) there was a little drop of bright red blood right at the end of it, but i think that is probably down to the fact that her little bottom hasn't been used in 4 days!!!! It had definite form, colour and looked 'normal', not like the ones she did before on the other antibiotics. Keep your fingers crossed!

Lol, Kazz! :D Don't worry I though about starting 'Poo Watch' with a live web cam feed to Catsey, in case I missed her going.

The thing with this time is, that the last antibiotics she was on, helped to give her poo shape but not much else, whereas these one have made them look normal! I' m taking this to be a sign that it probably IS giardia she ahs been suffering from, and hopefully that will be the end of the matter once the ab's are completed. I know that there is a chance it will never clear completely, but at the moment I'm feeling positive about her chances for the future!

Tell Teddie that's right - one of those a day and we can all relax a bit.

I do hope this is the course that will finally kick whatever into touch, and that you can then find one kind of food - the list you put on the other page was quite a lot for a short time.

It was all on the advice of the vet BT:roll: I spoke to him today to ask about her fish diet, he doesn't want her on it long term so has said to try re-introducing normal food now:? You know what happened last time we tried this! However, I went to PAH today and spent around half an hour looking at the different foods on offer, so I bought a small bag of JW ocean fish and rice, figuring that this is basically what she has been having for the last 2 weeks! Also the fact it is hypo-allergenic is worth trying in case it is a food allergy she has. Will keep you posted!

Hi Alex. Been away for a week (I needed it!), so just catching up on Teddie's news. Sorry you're still having problems, but sounds a bit more positive now. Don't forget, whatever it is, the older she gets the more able she'll be to fight it off, so don't give up the fight! She's very lucky to have you. Best wishes and hugs to you.

Well, thought I had seen the last of this thread but I was wrong. At the moment I feel like crying 'cause I don't know what to do now. Teddy has had a very loose stool again and I haven't a clue why. She has been fed nothing but the fish for the last week and yet this has happened again and all the the ones she has done have been great. I just feel so down about this as I don't have any more ideas on what to do with her.

Sorry to hear this; just as it looked as if things were improving..... Wish I had some suggestions.......

So sorry Alex to hear this. I dont know what to suggest but maybe its time to start ringing round vets in your area to see if you can maybe find one who has had more experience of cats with long suffering tummy troubles.
I wish you both all the very best, I really do xxx

Is there such a thing as an animal dietician? I know you have vets that specialise in behavioural problems maybe there's one that will specialise in food allergies and digestive problems.

Certainly worth a search . . . .

alexgirl73

will have a look yola, as you say you never know.

dandysmom
15-12-2006, 10:37 PM
That was an excellent suggestion; never thought of anyone who specialized in animal nutrition and/or allergies...do hope there's such a person within a reasonable distance!!!

Kazz

One loose stool does not a problem make, if things were going on normaly you wouldn't notice a loose poo but because you are monitoring her every movement (excuse the pun) it seems like the end of the world.

The dietician suggestion of Yola's is brilliant. Something I would never have thought of.

But can't see why she can't stay on the fish diet if it works for her surely the fact she has solid poo's and is feeling great on it and you are at ease is the important thing. To get her bigger/older and stronger before moving on may be if she is allergic to something she may grow out of it as people do some people can't tolerate certain foods yet as they get older than can she may be the same.

No point worrying over a loose poo Imean look how far WE have come with this - always the bright side. A short time ago a semi solid would have been cause for celebration, now it should not be cause for concern.

There are nutritionists for horses so would imagine there are for small animals too. I wouldn't worry about an odd loose stool Alex. Porsha still has an occasionally runny one ;)

I hope yesterday was just a 'one-off' Alex. Maybe she had been a naughty girl and sneaked some forbidden food? I'd give her a dose of the granules and continue with the fish. Good luck

alexgirl73
16-12-2006, 05:57 PM
She has been given a dose of the granules DM, so we will see how she does tonight. Wont be able to update you for a few days as I wont be on until at least Wednesday after tonight, so hopefully she will be okay while 'up the road'.

I know this is an old thread, but did Teddie ever come right?

:D :D

Yes, I'm very happy to say that Teddie did come right, and is currently snoozing on the couch beside me as a contented 6 yr old cat :D Once we got to the year mark she came on leaps and bounds and have never had any problems with her since. I think it was a combination of all the different things we tried, antibiotics, food, granules kindly sent by Eileen from America and all the fantastic support given by the wonderful members of this forum :D I honestly would never have gotten through that horrendous time without this place, and neither would Teddie. She's a lot more 'middle aged' than Cooper is, who is the same age as her, and I don't think she'll make a grand old age, but I've been grateful for every single day we've had with her.
