Emma, by doing these drawings out of the kindness of your heart, you are also helping Cat Charities as I know there are several people on here who have already decided to make donations because of your talent:-P

I've loved seeing the work in progress pics - it's fascinating to see how it all comes together (yep, I was one of those kids who used to take things apart "just to see how they work"... still am  )

Thanks Emma, I will get snapping :D - and check the ones I've already got as well.

I know one of the local CPL fosterers a little (she's the receptionist at my vet and fostered Amber) so goodies will be winging their way to her (I work for a charity and have recently "taken issue" with the amount of mailshotting that CPL have done - in fact, new thread coming up...) so would rather give food, litter, etc. directly to the carer.

LMC I am happy for anybody to give donations to a carer or a shelter, anything to help :)

I thought some of you might like to see where I do my drawings, so here is a photo I took a few mins ago :)

Thanks Mags,

I thought you might like to see where I work :-D luckily I have a wireless keyboard and mouse :-D

Another update, just trying to get the depth of shading on the right side of the face now, the cats right ear is driving me nuts, as you can see from the reference picture the photo didn't have any ears :-D so I said I would put them in, I am 100% sure it is correct but it just doesn't feel right!!! arrrgghhh lol

I am sure once I get the colouring in the ear will be fine.

EmmaG
30-12-2005, 08:25 PM
Thanks Fran,

I try all sorts to make sure I am as accurate as possible, I have copied the left ear onto a separate piece of paper and turned it over to check the reference, I have also found a similar pose of a different cat and superimposed one photo onto the other (paintshop pro) and the ear still comes out in the same position. lol Oh well I will have to give it a go :)

Fran
30-12-2005, 08:28 PM
Emma I wish I could use paintshop pro,I just can't figure out how to use it :?

EmmaG
30-12-2005, 08:49 PM
Well Fran, I am not the quickest or perhaps the most advanced at using it but I seem to muddle through with it :)

Emma, I've just got around to reading all these posts and I'm just blown away by your talent.
I even dragged my husband up to have a look and he was so impressed.

Please let me know how to get in touch with you.

5 a month! And they are so good. Thats an average roughly of one a week. Where on the list are we all???? Sure everyone is dying to know!!!:-D

EmmaG
10-01-2006, 08:08 PM
I think I have been averaging one a week, sometimes I can do one on a Saturday or Sunday depending on the actual drawing and original photo. The pastels tend to work so fast, I can do those in a couple of hours :) But I have a lot to learn about pastels. Coloured pencils do take a long time mainly because of the detail you can do with them. I have also got some acrylics to try but I can only really do them at the weekend due to the mess and time setting everything up.

I haven't updated the list recently, but I have got Fran, Natalie, Jane, Moli, Mags, Lorraine, Luke, Brenda. I only update the list when I get close to the bottom! :) So don't worry if I haven't mentioned anybodies name :)

Made a few adjustments to the eyes. So I think it looks a bit better. Just need to darken the fur up a bit and then finish off the chest area :)

This photo gives you some idea of how I can check the actual shading of my drawing, I took both the original and a photo of my drawing popped them into photo shop and then converted them both to grey scale, as you can see my drawing needs to be a lot darker than it is at present. :-D

Dandysmom I still have quite a few to do :)

Thanks Tom for your kind comments :) I am hoping to get a lot more of Bootsy done next week :)

Deester the cats usually take anywhere between 8-15 hours depending on how big the drawing is (coloured pencils), pastels are about half of this time.

Hi everyone, I haven't been here for a couple of weeks but the progress with Emma's latest pic is fantastic! it looks great.
Can't wait to see where our Boston is in your list Emma, it will be even more special as we nearly lost him in November when he was hit by a car. Thankfully our vet is wonderful anad her put a cast on his broken vertebrae and with 8 weeks cage rest and lots and lots of TLC he is now fit and well and just getting back outside. it was a hard decision to make to let him out but he sooooo loves the outdoors he wouldn't have enjoyed life if I'd tried to make him into a house cat.
Anyway he's v well now and looking forward to having his pic hanging on the wall.
Cheers
MCS

Poor Emma will be overwhelmed with painting requests

Seriously tho, I think there will come a time when Emma simply can't do everyone a painting because there will be too many members (Dogweb has over 2,ooo members and its not even 2 years old  )

Perhaps I will have a talk with Emma and instead of people just cueing up for a painting, we simply run a monthly competition where the winner gets a painting, but for anyone who doesn't want to chance/wait 'to win' can buy a painting at a fair price, then Emma can choose to keep the money (which I think she'd deserve) or donate it - whichever she pleases.

I think Emmas doing a fab job but I do feel for her as I can imagine how much in demand her paintings are.... I mean who wouldn't want one of them, theyre ace!! :smt023

Mags
25-01-2006, 10:13 AM
I agree with Az, Emma is going to be innundated with requests for drawings and must 'draw the line' somewhere....she seems too nice a person to be able to say 'sorry, I've got too many to do at the moment'!
Az has put forward a couple of good ideas, re a monthly competition to win a drawing and also a chance to purchase a drawing. Emma has got such a talent and I think she should be rewarded in some way.....either to be used towards all the materials she has to buy or as Az said, to donate it..

dinahsmum
25-01-2006, 10:17 AM
Agree absolutely with Az and Mags.

I'm sure Emma enjoys her hobby but she needs time to herself - and she also needs to purchase her materials, which aren't cheap.
The competition idea is great.....................which is why Az is the boss and we are but happy drones!

Hi Guys :)

Very interesting to read your views on how the drawings will work. I have found in the past that I get a lot of requests to start off with (as I did on another cat forum) then it does tend to slow down quite a bit, from the other site I have about 1 request now a month. So although I have quite a few drawings to do now (not phased by the numbers yet!!! lol) I know come the end of the year I will be running out of drawings to do, even if Catpages grows quite a lot.

I don't want any money for my materials, it is a hobby for me and a lot of other hobbies would cost a lot more, it is quite inexpensive really. Per drawing it is pence, and I don't want to go down the route of taking money for myself for any drawings as this can lead to other problems (reading from problems other artists have, client not happy with drawing, somebody not paying, client being awkward) I would also have to declare this money with Revenue and Customs which I do not want to have to start filling in tax returns. Hence why I have always said that I would be happy for anybody who does want to pay me to donate it instead to a charity.

Also nobody from Catpages has harrassed me about doing the drawings, I have said as long as you don't mind the wait, they will all get done.

I do like the idea of a competition though :) Perhaps this is something we could do once the numbers of drawings are down a bit.

EmmaG
25-01-2006, 01:29 PM
I would just like to point out also that to me I see these drawings as practice pieces, I will be trying various different materials and styles in the future. Not just coloured pencils.

Moli

I would be quite happy to donate to a charity Emma.....Probably Smudgely's cats.

If you run out of pic's at the end of the year Emma, I have another 3 cats!!

EmmaG
25-01-2006, 01:32 PM
Thanks Moli,

I do leave it up to individuals to donate, I would hate for somebody who didn't have a lot of money, not to have a drawing done because they couldn't afford a donation. I don't like the idea that only the better off members would get a drawing.

Moli
25-01-2006, 01:34 PM

I have spoken to Emma (and asked for a drawing well two of Oz and Cleo) Like many other people I am sure we have no problem with waiting. We realise she does this as a hobby and not on a bussiness footing.
