Hi Everybody,

Now I hope this is the best place for me to post up some of my drawings I have done for members of another cat site. I have only been drawing since August 2005 so I am very new and learning loads with each drawing I do.

Anyway I will let the drawings speak for themselves, all of the following drawings have been done using coloured pencils:-

If anybody would like a drawing done of their cat, please pm me and let me know, I don't charge for these as this is a hobby for me and I find it good practice, I also really enjoy drawing cats where I know the owner will get some enjoyment out of my drawing (well I can hope!!) What I will do is email you a scan of the drawing and you can print it out on your own printer, or use it as a desktop, if you don't like the picture you don't have to have the scan. I will mention that as this is a hobby I do these in my spare time so I cannot say when I will be able to start a drawing or how long they will take, so I cannot guarantee much! I also cannot guarantee how the drawing will turn out, all of the above I am quite happy with. Don't be frightened to ask me if you would like a drawing done of your cat, I don't bite :)

I hope you all enjoy my drawings, and comments would be appreciated :)

Az
14-10-2005, 05:52 PM
I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra either because it does take a lot of time and effort and so wouldn't expect to have the original artwork for free. :)

Fran
14-10-2005, 06:03 PM
Yeah, I'd be interested in the original too Emma if that was possible?

Wow - Emma - they are very good & I would be very keen for you to draw my cats, I would gladly pay - or make a donation to Cats protection (as that's the charity I am involved with)

Emm
14-10-2005, 07:48 PM
you are so talented - your work is beautiful and you definately don't need to practise! you really know how to capture the essence of the cat - well done!

p.s - I think you should charge because talent like yours deserves to be rewarded

I have seen a few artists work but yours is definatley by far the best! :D

EmmaG
14-10-2005, 08:33 PM
wow thanks guys for your kind comments :)

I have already purchased loads of paper and materials so I am not interesting in charging for these pictures, any other hobby would cost me money and I get so much enjoyment from doing the drawings especially if the owner likes the finished piece.

If anybody wants to pay me I would prefer that they donate to their local cats protection/RPSCA.

If anybody wants to own one of my original drawings I will be happy to send them to anybody in the UK. Postage and packaging materials for the UK won't cost a lot for a pencil drawings (I will have to check the final postage cost) but it wouldn't be more than £5.

Most of my drawings are on A3 paper, the pencil drawing I have posted up on black paper was on A4.

EmmaG

Well my husband and I belong to an Art Gallery and I truely think her drawings of cats are the best that I have ever seen!!!

Emma... you should be selling those! You have a wondeful talent. :)

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 10:56 AM
Thanks everybody,

Hi LaKitten, a lot of people have said that I should sell my drawings but I really just think the process of selling them is a hassle and I would rather be drawing :)

Just to give you guys some idea of how I start one of my drawings here is the start of a new drawing, at the moment I am trying to get the eyes and nose correct.

Mags
16-10-2005, 11:22 AM
What a good idea Emma....who knows we may all be able to draw a cat by watching you stage by stage :-D I think the eyes and nose are brilliant even without the rest of the cat!!

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 11:34 AM
Thanks Mags, I saw this way of drawing on another forum and thought I would try this way too. I learn so much with each drawing I do, and I would recommend anybody who wants to take up drawing to just have a go, you never know how good you are until you give it a go. :)

Mags
16-10-2005, 11:37 AM

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 11:58 AM
Mags,

Firstly you have to make sure you get any highlights of the eyes in the correct place there is usually one main highlight where the light enters the eye and their will be a corresponding highlight (although normally very subtle)

With the iris you just need to layer the colours until you get a more or less exact match to the colour of the cat you are drawing, I also check very carefully the size and location of the cats eyes, I will measure this countless times to make sure they are all in proportion. With the nose it is always the same angle as the cats eyes, therefore if the cats eyes are at an angle the nose will be as well.

Also shading is very important in getting the cats eyes to look correct.

Mags
16-10-2005, 01:17 PM
 Emma I had a go at copying your eyes and nose sketch and I can honestly say that is the first time I have ever done anything that resembles a cat!!! It's not a patch on yours mind, but even my hubby could tell what it was:lol:
Did you go to Art College?

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 01:32 PM
Thats excellent!!! hey practice makes perfect :)

No I didn't go to Art College or any art classes, the only art I did was at school, which was 16 years ago. I start drawing again in August of this year :)

Az
16-10-2005, 02:01 PM
The last pic you posted is brill Emma and would look fantastic as an art piece on a wall in a contemporay styled building. If it was on a white canvas and they eyes were the same colour as the wall it would look very striking!

You are very talented Emma I rekon you will be famous one day

samwise

Hello Emma,
Yours drawings are very good. I have Persian cats, had kittens not that long ago and plenty of pictures of them. Have a look at mine threads. I could even post you original of any of those pictures or take some more pictures. I’ve noticed in your drawing, there no Persian cats yet   . I would be over the moon if you decide to draw one but only if one of them will inspire you . Thank you for sharing with us

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 05:11 PM
Thanks Samwise and Az :) I am not sure about being famous though ;)

Here is an update on the picture I am drawing, the cat has very unusual colouring being very black and grey so I have loads of darkening up of the fur to do, with this cat I have laid down all of the fur in correct direction and then I can darken it up where I need to

EmmaG
16-10-2005, 05:17 PM
Hi Irena,

Yes of course I will draw your cats, just checked the pictures of the kittens ...they are totally gorgeous!! No I haven't done any persian cats yet, my next cat to draw is a Maine Coon, which I am really looking forward to drawing. I will have a go at drawing anything :) all of the cats inspire me :)

Irena please email me your pictures to EJG@Supanet.com, stating which pictures you prefer and if you want any changes done to the drawing, and I will have a go at a drawing for you.

Emma - your pictures are stunning. I DID go to art school but would never be able to draw like that (ok, it was a little while ago now . . . but I still wouldn't be able to even get close)

The detail in the fur and the life in the eyes is seriously good. These cats could jump off the page!!

I would adore to have some pictures of my fluffy family; I suppose persians would present their own challenge as they are more difficult to draw. I will wait for the rush to die down also as I don't want to swamp you :)

EmmaG
17-10-2005, 03:53 PM
Hi Yola thanks for your kind comments. I am not sure that a persian cat is going to be more difficult to draw, just a bit different, I think it is going to be a case of laying down the colour of the fur and making sure the lighting/shadows are correct.

I also do pictures using pastels and these do lend themselves to long haired animals a bit better than coloured pencils.

Well I have a Maine Coon to do next so I will let you all know how the pencils go on the long fur :)

Here is a drawing of a cat I did for one of the other forums, they run an art contest and although I am quite busy drawing the other cats I thought I would enter into the contest, the eyes were done using coloured pencil and the rest is charcoal. I did this in about 1.5 hours, so it was very quick for me, most of my coloured pencil drawings take over 10 hours to complete.

Hi Abbi,

Yes of course I can add you to my list, please email me your pictures to EJG@Supanet.com and I will have a go at a drawing for you.

Emma.... I am flat out amazed at the quality of your work. At first glance I took them for photos. The detail is fantastic as is the proportion, scale and perspective. I've been drawing for many years and know how difficult such realism is to attain. You have a definite talent and I hope you will keep developing it.

Well Arthur was a birthday present about 6 years ago and Bronwyn was my birthday present (to myself!! lol) last year, as my birthday is in November my boyfriend said what would you like for your birthday this year and I said hmmmm another cat ?????

lol I don't think it is going to work!! and he is right when he says that although our two cats get on very well with each other another cat might not.
