Potential new homes

Hi all

I am already on the case of looking for homes for my new babies.

How old should they be before i allow people to view them?

Thanks

Re: Potential new homes

Can't say what's best; when 2 of my friends had kittens I saw them the day after they were born, but I suspect that's a bit early. Hopefully members who know what they're talking about will come on with good advice. I do know that early handling is good for socialization.......

Wouldn't dream of telling him! I wish I were there to give them kisses and cuddles too; it was been far too long since I had a kitten... Leia was nine last month...

Oh Eileen, please don't start getting kitten broody! I think Boys Mum used that phrase a while ago, and I keep thinking "Oh now wouldn't that be lovely?"

How d'you think Leia would take to a kit in her house?

Re: Potential new homes

I suspect she might tolerate a kitten, especially a little boy, better than she did poor Onyx! Yes, I love BM's expression "kitten broody", and now that kitten season is in full swing here I am getting a bad case of it....

I wouldn't let people come and view the kittens for at least 3/4 weeks - you need to give them time to build up some immunity.

They should be able to go to their new homes and be fully weaned at 8 weeks old.

Re: Potential new homes

Agree with Charliebubs. I'd let them get to four weeks before you let new germs in.
Not so sure about the eight weeks. Definitely not before then! Rover was twelve weeks and had had both his innoculations before I was allowed to pick him up, and the arguments I have heard for that made sense to me. I'd suggest reading up on the net, sorting by common sense and coming to your own conclusion. Would probably depend on the home they were going to as well (experience, distance etc. I know you will only pick good homes for them. )

I agree that for pedigrees it should be 12 weeks at the earliest, as they would have both their vaccinations etc.

However - this is a litter of moggies and in my experience they won't be vaccinated before they go to their new homes - so I was saying 8 weeks on the basis of that - and then they are old enough to be taken for their first vaccination by their new owners.
