My MIL wants to kill me

Hee Hee. Got one over on my MIL today. My OH had a friend down from Scotland to see in the year with us. When he left this afternoon, hubby decided to go up with him for a week. His dad isn't too well and all so he decided it might be nice to go and cheer him up a bit. So I phoned MIL a couple of hours ago, when OH and friend were at Carlisle (it takes about an hour and a half to get to Cumbernauld from there) to ask how her day was. Quiet and boring was the reply, no first footers at the door or anything. I sympathised with her and when she asked to speak to OH I said he was out first footing his pals . SO, she just phoned me 15 mins a go calling me a besom and that she'll get me back OH was her first foot for this year, she said. When I spoke to OH he said his mum was almost in tears. So that's my good deed for 2008 (not that there is any ulterior motives for it, like getting OH out of my hair for a week )

Re: My MIL wants to kill me

Awww, nice! We had an article in the paper yesterday about first footing, and it said it was lucky to have a dark haired brown eyed man...does that describe your OH? And said that a blue eyed blonde man was bad luck, and that it probably went back to the days when the Danes were pillaging and burning! Interesting article!

Wha happens if you don't have a first-footer? Bad luck?

Re: My MIL wants to kill me

lol, my hubby will be bringing bad luck then Eileen (although the blonde hair is thinning these days, wonder if it still counts lol). You get a first footer eventually, even if it is days later, so it still counts.

Here's another bit about first footing for you to read.

And yes I did tell MIL Mags, she laughed and said she knew that lol!

Re: My MIL wants to kill me

walking No, he'll be getting the bus back down. Not suer what day next week he's back though. He only went 'cause my neighbours next door said they would do any shopping and things I needed, but as I'm well stocked from Christmas I dont really need anything, and they are going to put our bins out for me too . And the girls know they can go and get them if need be.

I did tell him, but he does insist on getting the bus back. Otherwise it would be next new year before I see him lol.
