Colin looses his plums on Monday (and an update on Princess)
Bless him, he's come of age! Still telling myself it's just routine, he'll be fine, don't be irrational!
While i'm on the subject, Princess went to the vets with Colin (for his pre-op check today) and it's been advised that she is let to reach her adult size before she is spayed, but otherwise the go ahead has been given as long as she is as healthy and well as she is now. So she is to be taken in after her first birthday to discuss it futher. The main reason for this is that the hormonal change may disrupt her growth and development, but as not enough is known really about her condition (without bringing a specialist in) it is hard to say but I was also told there are likely to be less problems once she is an 'adult' (over 12 months).
Even the vets themselves don't really know much about her condition at all, the head vet has been at the practice over 20 years and she's never seen anything like it before so everything seems to be an educated guess I feel. You may remember she saw a spinal specialist (just for a chat really) when we first noticed her problem and it was then diagnosed as a form of spina bifida, which the specialist had seen a number of animals with, but never a hole in the spine like she has.
So when she does go in she will be given an ultrasound to make sure everything is as it should be (as there is a possibility she might not even have a womb or a fully developed one, which is worrying in itself and led us on to a whole other topic with my vet today about what else could be 'wrong' with her insides, but the vet assured me she is fine and there's no need for scans or anything as if anything was actually wrong with her, we'd know by now, hmmm not very reassuring for me!)
