Woodpecker !


She was at my suet cake when I was putting the trash out, and naturally I didn't have the camera with me ! This is a downy woodpecker, our smallest, about the size of a sparrow. I don't think you have the downeys in the UK, so copied a pic,,,it's a female, the makes have red on their heads. Haven;\'t seen one in a while.

Nope, the feeder's on the side of the house and the living room windows are the high-up ones on either side of the fireplace...where Leia was sitting with her tail hanging down in one pic! I would love to get a real pic of her, but you know if I take the camera outside with me, she won't come...Murphy's Law, lol !

No, I meant I have only seen one of our UK woodpeckers once!
Ours are a bit bigger than that one.....

I remember someone here posted a pic of a green woodpecker...we don't have them; it was a very attractive bird. woodpeckers are reasonably common here, as we're near the park...I've seen the red-headed the hairy and the flicker...latter is huge !
