Fran - snake plant

This is a snake plant; not especially attractive, but as tough as an old boot!

Thank you for posting that Eileen, I have seen one before I think but didn't realise that they were called Snake plants. Do they flower at all?

Re: Fran - snake plant

Isn't that mother in law's tongue?
You can propogate it by just taking a leaf, cutting it into 2" chunks and popping them into compost (just the base has to be in the compost, and you keep the pieces the same way up as they were when growing) New plants easily grow at the base

Re: Fran - snake plant

Yes, mother-in-law's tongue is another name for it. It has very inconspicous (sp?) greenish flowers, not attractive at all; it's only virtue is that it's almost indestructible and will grow in poor light, poor soil, and can be neglected without any harm...the perfect plant for the black thumb crowd! Although, as I mentioned to Fran earlier, I had a friend who actually managed to kill one!!!
