Memories

Reading the posts about poppies it made me think about memories.

My Dad born 1929 and last but one of 15 children (who lived through childhood that is) recalls his Mom my Nan saying she read the headline in the newspapers when Jesse James was killed.

My Dad's memory would be landing on the moon a fete he said he found totaly unbelievable.

My Mom's the death of Kennedy. And Moors murders. Odd

And both of them VE and VJ day.

So what would be a memory that sticks in your mind?

Re: Memories

Princess Diana's death was a significant one from my 'childhood'..
And on the note of a death, when Dusty Springfield died (i was a bit older then, naturally) and remember it as my mam allways played a lot of 'the white soul girl' throughout my life..
Days that, sadly, aren't particually long ago yet equally memorable-9/11, When foot and mouth broke out (i remember thinking, it's the begining of the end-wasn't far off too!) and only last year with 7th of the 7th..

Re: Memories

I think one of mine would have to be the Falklands, the start and finish.
Queen's Silver Jubilee. Great day.
Berlin wall coming down.

Re: Memories

Oh dear - have to wrack the poor brain cell again Kazz

I'll have the Queens Silver Jubilee as well - we had just moved house, I was 2 weeks away from giving birth to my son, but I remember waddling down the road (our new road) and sitting Katie on a pillar box to watch the parade go by! Also Charles and Diana's wedding. That was a lovely day - we had one of those 'relaxed/house full of people, including children,' days. Increases my resentment of Charles for breaking the spell and souring my memory!

and Diana's death (i've written of that before)

The Falklands - yes - the feeling of astonishment. War??? war????, Britain doesn't do war Huh - that was then and this is now.

Landing in Florida during the 'hanging chad' fiasco of the 2000 election. Oh what fun I had (repeatedly) telling various US hosts that I had worked on elections and could give them a hand!

9/11 (viewed 36 hours later - I watched with my chin on the floor)

Oh dear - the longer you live the more memories you have.
