Re: Travel in time

I wouldn't mind going back to the 'roaring 20s' or to the Roman times.

Re: Travel in time

That would depend absolutely if I was 'above' or 'below' stairs.
There are quite a few periods in history when it might have been nice to be around if one was privileged...............for poorer people you'd have to come way, way up to date. Life was pretty tough even for my parents when they were young.

Re: Travel in time

Okay an addtion here; you can be anything you want, a bystander as you are but just an observer. Like a snapshot of time.

Re: Travel in time

Maybe watch Pompeii? Bit gruesome but fascinating
Then go to Crete and see a similar thing at Knossos but find out why the Minoans weren't all petrified (weren't there how did they know? where did they go? how did someone persuade them of the danger?)

Mmm, will think more of this.

Maybe (gruesome again, but history is pretty gruesome) be in the planning room when the first Nazi described his brainwave - the Final Solution What did the others say? "You what?" or "Great idea - trust Fritz!" or ?????

Re: Travel in time

Probably back to the 1600s, Roundheads and Cavaliers time etc, mainly because I've been reading the Bernard Cormwell books set at that time.
I would love to see the Countryside that I am familiar with back in that time, how it looked before the towns and cities got so large and intensive farming stripped away so many natural features and forests. I would love to go back to that time with a helicopter and fly over the country

Re: Travel in time

I often wish when I am walking the dogs, I could go back 100 years to the spot I am standing at, just to see what it was like then!

Re: Travel in time

As I live in a Georgian/Regency house which is 200 years old, we often sit and ponder the people who passed through our door. I would ideally love to have been a fly on the wall (not literally coz I would probably have been swatted), to have lived through the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras to see how the house was used and who lived here and what they did and how they did it . . .
