My big little acer is too large to wrap up!

But it has managed to survive for 13 odd years .....

it is a wonderful colour this year......

.... and I had to get loads of photos of it before the frosts. Actually, this is the one plant in my garden that I would be really sorry if I lost.

It's going to have to have a bit of a trim this year too.

It is a great colour isn't it. I love acers, just wish I had at least one sheltered corner in the garden. Then I'd grow all these lovely more tender type things.

What a stunning color! I do hope you have a mild Winter and it survives; be a shame to lose it! Where is global warming when we need it?

Mine is just beginning to color, will post a pic when it's in its full glory.

Well, I've had it for about 13 years but I'm not sure how old it was when I bought it. It lived happily in a pot for a long while but has been in the ground now for about 5 years.

It is planted right by the western side of the bungalow - the weather that affects it most is cold wind in the spring when the new shoots are appearing. Otherwise it seems to be fairly hardy. (Famous last words - I hope not).

Not sure if it's true but I heard that the acer leaves were a really vivid red this year due to all the rain we had through the summer. By all accounts all the rain makes the leaves store more sugar () which in turn makes the leaves go a richer colour.

Interesting, Mags! We've had more rain than usual this year, but an unusually dry October ...wonder what color I'll have. It's been raining all afternoon although the forecast was "partly sunny" .....
