Neutering early

Maisey's kittens are 6 months old on the 22nd of this month. Chunkey is already trying just with Troy and Chester. He needs to be done but will it be harmful for him to be done a bit early. My vet will do him at 5 and half months but the others have always been over this age. Smokey also needs it as well but is at least 5 wks younger than Chunkey. Am i right too get him done sooner i realy dont want anymore kittens.

Re: Neutering early

yes, yes, yes... get them all done now.
Males & females will be fine at this age.
The boys will be spraying & getting hormonal soon, get their bits chopped off before they have chance to think about becoming a teenager.

I'm with smudgley on this one - my vet will do boys in a mixed household from 5 months onwards without any worries.

Re: Neutering early

I just needed someone to say it was alright. Chunkey has only tried with Troy and Smokey with Chunkie. I think they are hormornal teenagers myself with havening a teenage daughter like that as well i dont need anymore. Going to speak to the vet in the morning to see when i can get them booked in next week. My neighbour is ok with taking me but i need another carrier as Smokey has accidents in it. Bit worried about Smokey going as he is still very frieightend of strangers and hides if anyone comes. He doesnt realy like males. In the last week he is sitting next too me letting me stroke him and has also sat on my knee. I didnt think this would happen but he only does it with me. He still lashes out but it is only fear i am sure off but he realy his a softy and hates being alone he crys when he cant see another cat.

Re: Neutering early

Many vets do early castration here with no problems. I agree, have them done ASAP!

Re: Neutering early

all kittens that are adopted from shelters here are "fixed before they are put up for adoption... all of mine have been adopted between 8 and 12 weeks of age...
thats standard here in Australia

Re: Neutering early

Spoke to the vet today. Chunkey is going in to be neutered next wednesday. I explained like calismum said that i have a multicat household and if he weighs 2kgs which i am sure he does they will neuter him. I will let you know how it goes. I do worry as he is my cat and only likes me like smokey does but he is placid enough to be ok with strange places.
