Hi there - I'm new and could do with some advice

I have a 6 year old female black and white cat who is perfectly healthy - except that her black sections are turning a rather nice shade of rust. She shows no ill effects. Her head and tail are still black and white.
Any ideas anyone?

Hi Will and welcome to Catsey

I'm afraid that I don't know the answer to your query - but hopefully someone else on here will. We are an informative bunch!!!

Perhaps it's just her way of going gray with style!?!?!

Can we see some pics of her??

Have just found this website which may be of interest.... from first glance none of the serious conditions mention fur turning a rust colour....

My cat buster is oing rust coloured as well. I think it might have something to do with the sun.

He seems fine otherwise. He is a grey and white in colour.

Welcome to Catsey. I know a couple of people on the site have mentioned that their black cats get a rust looking shade in the sun, but not that it is permanent.

Some days my tabby looks grey and others he looks brown not sure why though.

Hope someone can be more helpful to you and yes we would love to see pics.

We used to have a black cat and we noticed that she did this too in the Spring. We thought it was just old, fading coat just before moulting out, she always got glossy and black again afterwards until the next moult.

My rabbit does axactly the same thing. He goes a rusty colour before the nice new coat comes through. Perhaps it is an age thing with your cat??

Hi Will - Welcome to Catsey.

What an interesting problem - how long has your cat's coat been a rusty colour. It sounds as if it could be just before she sheds her old coat. Do you groom her?
