Licking

What does it mean when my cat licks me? Does it mean I'm dirty? Is he kissing me? Any answer would be apperciated alot? My kitten licks me alot and I've always thought he was showing me affection through kissing but I'm not sure if that is what it means or not, thanks in advance.

Re: Licking

Misty licks my hands if I have handled her cat biscuits cos she is a greedy minx, and Chloe sometimes licks my hand if I am stroking/playing with her so think it means she likes me (I hope!!).

Re: Licking

I'm sure it is their way of expressing affection/demonstration of kin/clan-ship.

Echo - mine "groom" hands by grasping my hand between paws and licking. Grooming each other in cats is sign of affection and kinship. Look at prides of lions in wild and groups of ferals

It can also be a diet deficiency as cats will lick the salt on our skin but this is more unusual.

Re: Licking

I also read that it was a sign of acceptance, as in the cat accepts you as one of its own.

Made sence to me since cats beleive they own everything LOL
