Getting a new cat!

Hi there,
i haven't been on for ages but still a frequent browser!
Lily is fine and a gorgeous cat, has very definate likes and dislikes....like all cats!
We're giong to get another cat in September and hoping to get a ginger kitten. We thought a kitten would be best so Lily would adapt easier but male or female? We prefer females but someone mention that two females together would fight. Is this right? I don't mind a boy but with me being the only female in the house, I would like to get the balance right!
Thought and ideas?
Tale care

A new kitten! How lovely!
I always prefer boys, so I'd say go boy.
A kitten should fit in beautifully; it takes some kind of bad cat to be really mean to a little kitty. Expect Lily to be a bit put out and to take her time to adjust to the interloper. There's a good link Elaine posted about introducing cats - i'll find it and copy it here for you.
There ya go! http://wizz-catz.co.uk/introducing.html

Re: Getting a new cat!

Hi and lovely to see you again! A new baby, how exciting I think girl/boy comes down to personal preference. I have both and have to say in my experience that introducing boys is much easier to do especially if the already resident cat is female. I guess others will have different experiences. Perhaps the kitten will choose you and the sex will become unimportant

Good luck and do keep us updated on what you decideto do and of course we want lots of piccies

Re: Getting a new cat!

That's great ! Congratulations on getting a new edition. I personally prefer females too, I have 3 males and 3 females, the males were here first, the females are all under 6 months old, they have joined the family with such eaze, and I have had no problem at all personally with them fitting in. As others have said...when the right kittie picks you, you will know...whether it be a male or a female ...Can't wait too see pics

Re: Getting a new cat!

Awww how exciting, have you been to meet any news kitties yet?

We just got kitty #2, an 18 week old ginger male.. well it was supposed to be female bloomin RSPCA got it wrong again , we already have an 8 year old moggy and they seem to be getting on ok for now although it is early days (just bought Scrabble home on Wednesday ), there have been a few hisses and growls but mainly only when Scrabble stawks and leaps on Thomas or tries to eat his food

Good luck, can't wait to see the pics!
