Hamsters???

This is for a friend of mine...

He had two roborovski dwarf hamsters, but the one died. Would it be ok to buy another hamster and put it with the original one?

Thanks

Tanya

Re: Hamsters???

Imo Tanya, no!! I've had numerous hamsters over the years and they are usually solitary creatures. Anytime I've tried to introduce one to another it hasn't worked. Your friends two may have been all right as they were always together, but to introduce another hamster now would probably lead to some nasty fights.

Re: Hamsters???

I am sure the only Hamsters you can keep together are Russian ones...
I had Hamsters years ago and was advise not to keep them together as they would fight...

Re: Hamsters???

No the girls are right. Dont put another one in, even if they are russian's. The one that remains was used to it's pal. To introduce another one now would only result in fights.

Re: Hamsters???

No definately not. They will tear each other apart. Sometimes even sibling roborovski hamsters can end up fighting and have to be separated.

Re: Hamsters???

Dwarf hamsters can live together, some people have a lot of success introducing them to eat other and getting them to love eachother, other people are not so lucky and end up with a poor, dead hammy. I wouldn't recommend him to get another, the remaining hamster will be fine on it's own as long as it has a lot of human contact regulary.
