Kittens fed adult food

In the continuing saga of Teddy and Cooper......

After having fed the boys on RC sensitive wet I tried to slowly reintroduce kitten food to them, as soon as I did this straight back on the runs (and there is no way I can afford to feed them this all the time). The advice I have been given from the vet now is to feed them on the RC for another week and slowly mix whiskas supermeat into it and not to give them kitten food at all, as apparently it is too high in proteins or something like that. Has anyone else ever had to put their kittens straight onto adult food, and what was the result?

I must admit, I am quite nervy about doing this as all the data says this shouldn't be done, yet when you think about it, kitten food is a relatively new concept and there used to only ever be one type of food for all cats regardless of age. Still worried though!

When I got kittens, I had adult cats, and they always went for the adult food, I gave up in the end and let them eat what they wanted, it did them no harm at all...

That's a relief to know. Cooper keeps trying to eat Broxis anyway and I was at my wits end trying to stop him. Now, keep your fingers crossed that this puts an end to the runs!

Hope their tums settle down, didn't do my lot any harm, Oliver had a funny tummy to begin with, but he started pinching the big boys food and has been fine ever since, although if I change the brand, he gets the runs again...

I ve tried to keep Keiras kitten food away from willows adult food and vice versa, and for a while they would eat each others with no ill affects, so i would not worry to much about giving adoult food. but just now cos willow is on s/d its a bit of a nightmare as willow must get the s/d and keira must not get anywhere near it. i need to feed them in different rooms.

When I got Dandy as a kitten I got him kitten food, which he promptly ignored and ate the two girls' adult food...and the girls devoured the kitten food! Didn't seem to do him a bit of harm; grew into a very healthy happy cat!

Vincent and Mabel have kitten food but always go for the big girls food, I wondered too about whether to just give up and feed them all the same, like you say, years back there was only ever adult food x

I gave little Alfie kitten food but not only did he prefer to go and eat Rosie's food he also loves the dog's food! He is not averse to Italian, Indian, cake, Sunday Roast and the list goes on. In fact he is very much like my dog Holly he can eat anything and seems to thrive on it

There again cats only ever used to get leftovers (and dogs) when I was little all our cats got leftovers.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Much more reassured now. All the remaining packets of kitten food will now be taken up to pets at home for the animal charity bin (hopefully the strays will be less fussy).

When I first had cats there was no such thing as foods for kittens, seniors, longhair, shorthair, etc etc, and my cats all lived to grand old ages, never did them any harm at all! I wouldn't worry too much about it!
