Workmen

Grrrrr. In a bit of a mood today

After the kitchen was done, I had about £500 left. I decided to get the house painted (back and front). The guy down the road that seems to know EVERYBODY and does a lot of work around here said he would do the painting for £450 plus £70 for paint.

Anyway, he did the back and started on the front and then mentioned the paint was gonna be £150. I didnt have the extra money so queried the extra £80 for paint. He said he never said £70 for paint to start with (which he did). I told him to forget finishing the front and to leave it alone. He said he couldnt do that, as it looks bad on him so he has done the front too (except the inner porch by the front door which now looks stupid).

I have given him the money he originally asked for but he has now made me feel really bad. He is the sort of person that will tell the whole street I messed him about (when I didnt) and he keeps on inviting himself into my house - yesterday to look at the kitchen, and today when painting the OUTSIDE of my house.

Wish I hadnt bothered to ask him to do it now

Do you think £150 is an extortionate amount of paint? I have a victorian mid terrace so not a huge house.

Re: Workmen

Bog-standard exterior dulux is not that expensive. Just look at the prices on the DIY shelves and then 1/2 it coz painters will get it trade.

Sounds like a bit of a cowboy to me . . .

Re: Workmen

Donna, I think £150 for paint is a lot. Can he not let you have the receipts or at least copies of them??

We have just painted the front of our bungalow and it was less than £15 for the paint so x that by the extra you would need to cover the front and back of yours that would be 10 times as much paint???

Here is how much paint ours used

What a lovely house Donna.

I would have taken you to B&Q bought the paint and done it myself for £300 then we could have drunk the rest
