Got a scare

earlier today when I came on. The forward/back arrows that you need to navigate had vanished... oh panic, quiz tonight and computer won't work properly! But I'm rather proud of myself, I managed to go on line and search the problem, and found it was the Navigation toolbar... and got it fixed so all's well for tonight. There was a time when I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do..... . except, as the saying goes,

When in trouble or in doubt
Run in circles, scream and shout!

All's well that ends well!

Well done you!

Someone on the Schnauzer forum uses the couplet:

"When in danger or in doubt,
run in circles, scream and shout!"

and calls it the Mini Schnauzer code! That's just what they do!!!

Where does it come from originally?

I haven't a clue, one of those expressions I seem to have known all my life. Did a Google and there is no real firm definite answer:

WHEN IN DANGER, WHEN IN DOUBT, RUN IN CIRCLES, SCREAM AND SHOUT and its variations appear to have begun as a U.S. military (Navy and Army) expression. Herman Wouk (see 1951 quote below) called it an ‘ancient adage,’ while most others called it an ‘old saying/motto/maxim/adage.’ But from the evidence below, I would say that the expression is not all that old and that it probably came into existence during WW II.

Oh,worse than boot camp, Angie: at Annapolis and West Point too!!! Actually, there was an extremely lengthy discussion about possible sources, and both the military academy and naval lore came up ... I didn't post the whole link as there was no definitive answer, just copied out that bit. Quite interesting, I'll see if I can find it again for you.

That's very true, CM! You do start to get a feel for it after a bit, and it's no where as scary as it once was.
