Bluebell wood

OH took these photos yesterday - I was amazed that the bluebells seem to already be going over here in Southern England. I have a memory which is probably wrong, that during my childhood (1950's) when bluebell picking was the thing to do they seemed to flower at the end of May/beginning of June.

The colour never comes out quite right. I would swear they were verging on purple!

They are just beautiful. There's something so quintessentially English about a bluebell wood I love the 2nd picture particularly, especially the 'horizontal' foliage in the trees, very evocative - expecting a man in green tights to jump out at any time

That brings back memories for me too, we used to go to the Bluebell Woods in Fareham to pick Bluebells, when I was a kid...

Oh Yola, you have such an exquisite way with words, and although I couldn't have put it quite as beautifully as you, I agree. I adore bluebells.
