anaesthetic for kitten?

is it safe?
my Indy will be 12 weeks old next week.

He has hurt his tail though and needs to have it amputated, he is going in tomorrow for the surgery.

How safe is the anaesthetic on a kitten so young? I don't want to lose him

Re: anaesthetic for kitten?

When my kittens went into the vets for their spay and castration the vet told me that they would be fine as long as they were fit and healthy.

When I was younger I worked in a vet surgery and the CPL used to bring very young kittens in to be spayed and castrated. The vet thought they recovered quicker from anaesthetic.

Good luck.

Re: anaesthetic for kitten?

I'm sure he will be fine, there is always a risk to any anaesthesia but the drugs used now are very safe and can be accurately dosed to his bodyweight.
I have administered a GA to a 2 week old Cavalier King Charles pup before (to repair a huge hernia) and he recovered very quickly.

Re: anaesthetic for kitten?

Thank you for the replies

He went in for surgery today. He came through it good.
He was neutered at the same time which was fab, as it means he won't have to have another anaesthetic later on

He's doing surprisingly well. He's still figuring out where he can and can't go because of the cone on his head though

Glad all is well for the youngster. Can you introduce him to us and tell us his name? We'd love to see a photo of him and don't mind at all if he is still wearing his cone!

Sorry, just re-read your first post and see he's called Indy. Great name!
