HOUSEWORK - "According to research....."

"According to research the average woman spends more than 16 hours a week cleaning the home. That's well over 2 hours a day............."

This was an astounding (to me) quote from a magazine produced by Nescafe. The aim of the article I have quoted from was very good, ie. to encourage those doing the housework - and I hesitate to say "women" here - to turn the housework into a workout. The article then goes on to give a table of calorie burning per activity.

I was just amazed at the more than 16 hours a week. Am I a slut - or have I just got a life???

I'd be SO INTERESTED to know what you think and whether this figure accuratley indicates how much housework you think you do!!!!!!

Re: HOUSEWORK - "According to research....."

Well I'm a bit of a clean n tidy freak. Thankfully on the cleaning front I get help from cleaners who come every 2 weeks. However, probably as a minimum I clean and tidy up about 45 minutes each day (bearing in mind I have 2 small boys who leave a train of mess and dirt in their wake and a husband who's not much better ).

If the basement floor needs washing or the cats have been particularly negligent with where they place their cast-off hair and furballs it might be more

I am what you might call a "relaxed housekeeper"; when it gets to the point that it annoys me then I will do a big clean/tidy/ dust/hoover session; otherwise just ignore it. So I am messy! No way would I spend two hours a day every day.........

Re: HOUSEWORK - "According to research....."

It takes me 2 hours to clean when I have left it all the week!!! But it didn't even take that long when I had the builders in.....
Nope I have far too much to do to spend time cleaning all day and the house is tidy and clean.

Re: HOUSEWORK - "According to research....."

Hmmm not sure myself, I usually clean/tidy when I get home after work, I reckon for about an hour each day and then clean/hoover again at the weekend, so I reckon I am getting close to the 16 hours a week!! lol

Re: HOUSEWORK - "According to research....."

over two hours a day - they must be doing it wrong !

I work full time with 2 kids and 2 kittens and spend as little time as possible - quick swill down and change the straw every now and then

Weird thing is I hate cleaning up at home, but when i go round my brothers, i can't help tiding up for him - some thing wrong there

The kitten help to clean the floor by grabbing onto the brush when ever i try to sweep - which is more help than the kids
