I guess this counter balances the rise in blood pressure from muddy paw prints over the duvet when they come in to say good morning

Good point that! That's the sort of thing I often wonder whether these researchers take into account, and if so, how - unless they are on hand to measure peoples blood pressures at the moment when they grab whatever's to hand, throw it at the offending cat and shout "Gerroutofit, you 'orrible animal"!!!!!!!
