Thanks all. All information is greatly received I like the Basenji....and I like geyhounds....but I have always been led to believe that hounds are "independent by the nature of their breeding" to search out.

See the trouble I think I am having is when I write out my perfect "dog" I always end up with a Stafford

Karen you are quite right about Hounds having an independant nature. They can be very headstrong. The Basenji can be aloof with strangers but most are very loving with their owners, ours are like limpits on the settee with us,lol.
I don't know much about Staffies but love their smiley faces.

We intend on getting a dog in the next 6 months or so, and after a lot of research (many similar factors to you Kazz) we decided that we will get a cockapoo. They are a lovely breed, fluffy enough for good cuddles, great with other pets and kids, and they DON'T moult
