Chickens!

I was given two baby chicks today! Pets, not for eating. Anyone ever had chickens before, any advice?

The brown one is Thunder, and the yellow one is Lightning.

Re: Chickens!

I've kept chickens & ducks.
They are easy to keep.
they need to be kept warm at night whilst they are young & need to be safe from foxes/cats too.
they are lovely to keep & will be tame too if you handle them & talk to them.
& fresh eggs every day! (if they are girls)

Re: Chickens!

I have a lovely high walled garden that keeps all wildlife out.
They are growing like little weeds. They are learning to come to me when I come outside. Their little cheeps are so sweet! I just love them!

Re: Chickens!

Darling little peeps! I had a pet chicken when I was a child, very tame. He ate chicken feed and would come and sit on your lap like a cat; he liked to eat cracked ice in the hot Summer. Unfortunately he grew into a rooster (illegal in the City!) so we had to re-home him with our egg-man.
