Holiday this year?

Think I'm about to book a week in Crete in October. Just have to discuss it 'one more time' over lunch.
I love (the quiet parts - ie - non-Brit over-run) Greece and we haven't been there for 4 years, so it must be time.

Re: Holiday this year?

DM - I envy you!!! Greece is somewhere I've never been and would love to go. Thing is there's so much to chose from (Island-wise) and I don't know where I'm buying . . . I too love the non-Brit places!!

During the Feb 1/2 term we are going to Austria. My friend runs a tiny holiday company specialising in ski/tennis/spa/golf holidays and treated us to a long weekend last year at her 'pet' resort. It was my 1st experience of a winter holiday and we loved it so this year we are going for just over a week; and Domi will be going to ski kindergaarten!!!

Holidays are difficult for us as it's hard for us both to be away from the business for any length of time together, this is our 1st 'real' holiday since 2000!!!

Re: Holiday this year?

We usually go away in May but are delaying it this year as we don't know if OH has to have a knee op yet. All being well we have decided we will go back to Croatia (same hotel as last year) in September.

DM....I've always fancied Crete so can you recommend a quiet resort? We don't like packed out resorts where you have a job to move around

When we've been before we've gone to Magriyialos (or some variation on that spelling) on the south coast. It's quite a long haul from Heraklion airport but good when you get there. Def still a hol place, but Greeks there as well as brits. It's got the fish tavernas on the harbour etc.
This time, because we can get a flight direct from Bournemouth, we're going to a resort on the north, near the mad places (Ag Nic, Malia etc) but away from them and small, with its own little harbour etc. It's called Sissi. haven't been there but have done a bit of investigation and it sounds like it will suit us fine. 3500 visitor beds, so not so huge, and maybe not even full in October. Here's a link. http://www.explorecrete.com/crete-east/sissi-crete.htm Obviously they try to cast it in the best light, but it sounds as though it will suit us. If we find it too busy we'll walk up into the hills, or hire bikes, and go to the villages and amuse everyone with our awful Greek!

Our favourite island is Lesvos but you can only get flights from london or Manchester and the stress etc of getting to either of them (and worse, getting back) takes away from the holiday. We've also been to Thassos and Corfu. Corfu is different from the others mentioned - it's much more green, being Ionian rather than Aegean. But really lovely, and a much shorter flight.
Quiet resorts I could recommend are San Stefanos and Ag Geordis.

Ah, Greece, I love it. Bit like Dorset - they tried the idea of Manyana but it was a bit hasty for them!
Greek sunsets - mmmm

I love Crete, only been there once - when I was pregnant with my son - he's 18 now!! Love Rhodes too. We are hoping to have a barge holiday this year in Wales most probably and take Daisy dog with us!

That sounds great Yola - and I'm sure it must be difficult for you with a business to run - you'll have to grow so you can emply someone to look after it and let you enjoy the profits!

Re: Holiday this year?

we don't go abroad - we prefer to go away in our caravan. We go a few times, although didn't get away as much as usual last year as we had a litter all through the summer hols. Our first trip this year is at Easter
