Parakeets!!!

We have just returned from a lovely walk and lunch around Cookham (pretty Thames-side village). When walking down by the river there was a real racket from a huge tree and I swear there were a couple of budgies up the tree

Still - thought 'don't be stupid' and carried on to the lock. On our way back there were heaps of grey, green and yellow birds flying from tree to tree. Only they weren't budgies but bigger (hubby knows coz he used to breed budgies when we was a kid) - something like cockatiels or parakeets . . . they were beautiful and there were loads of them.

I didn't know these types of birds could survive here in the wild but these seemed to be thriving AND seeing off the crows to boot!!!

Re: Parakeets!!!

I think there are a few colonies of feral 'aussie birds' in the south of England - again I'm not sure exactly what. A google search might find them...........I'll maybe have a fiddle in a minute. Must be quite colourful but I bet they are noisy beasts in a big flock - just one indoors or a few in an aviary are noisy enough!

That's exactly the chaps DM; mainly green they were here too . . . thanks

Didn't realize they were quite that common - thing is I can't blame it on the wine as one of the chaps in the article did as I saw them before dinner

Re: Parakeets!!!

Yes I have heard there are some 'aussie' parakeets here. My OH is an Aussie and when we were there we saw hundreds of them!! I thought they were lovely, but the Aussies just think they are pests!
