metacam any info??

Hi, my cat who is 11 has been diagnoised with arthiritis and HD. She is on metacam at the moment but I am a bit reluctant to keep giving it to her long term as am not to sure of the side effects. Has anyone here used this before on cats, any advice of info would be great. thanks in advance x

Re: metacam any info??

Metacam is licensed in cats, but after a couple of months I would get the organ function tested for your cat. If it has any form of kidney damage I would stop, I would also do regular checks just to confrim the kidneys, in particular, are in no way compromised.
If the kidneys are fine, personally, I would have no issues using it, but if they are, I would try to find alternatives.
I have a couple of cats in renal failure and have found that acupuncture is very beneficial, and it avoids any other meds being added to the cats system.

Fully agree with farthing's advice. I have used it with great success but my vet did tests every 6 months.
