A new year question (which way out and in?)

Hi.
Right, we are having a family house party for new year as we always do but we never know if you go out the front door and in the back or out the back and in the front!!!

Does anyone know which way it is ment to be lol.

OH says you take the old year out the back door and the New Year in the front. First footing - and don't forget the lump of coal!

You open the back door to let out the old year, then open the front door to let in the New year
