Wonderful techie advance or scary as heck?

I can't decide - what about you?

Fed up with losing keys and forgetting passwords? Don't worry - help is at hand... literally.
Computer enthusiasts in the US have started implanting tiny chips in their hands, allowing them to unlock their front door or PC simply by waving.
The radio frequency identification chips are the size of a grain of rice, cost around $2 and can last up to 100 years.
They are activated when they come within three inches of a "reader", which recognises the data on them and tells the computer or door lock that the owner has returned.
The technology they use has been around for decades and is used for keeping track of everything from shop stocks to pets.

S'pose if chips are good enough for our pets they ought to be for us as well.

Would be good not to have to worry about keys etc..............and, thinking aloud, you could have, for example, your medical records, next of kin contact etc. OK if you live a settled life - if you were a serial house mover they'd have to dig out and replace the chip every time. Ouch!
Still not terribly keen.

don't you think that if we all had chips in our fingers it would soon end up like the minority(sp?) report the film with Tom Cruse in. i don't mean about mind readers but that fact they know where every 1 is all the time. a lot like the id card thing to much of big brother watching us

4 million CCTV cameras in Britain Nat - 1 for every 15 men, women and children!
Might as well be tracked through our personal chips as via fuzzy TV footage. Actually, although the libertarian in me recoils, the cameras are doing a great job and these new ones which monitor roads, pick up road tax dodgers etc do a great job in apprehending villains. Apparently the chances of having other crimes against you if you don't have road tax are huge - more than 50%
