What are the chances...

...of my two boys having some Bengal in them? This isn't just wishful thinking on my part (!) despite that I've always admired Bengals.

The more I've gotten to know them, the more I'm convinced. When I very first saw Darcy I thought he looked incredibly similar to a Bengal that used to live near us, called Dali. Whilst Stravinsky has some white in him, both have really striking stripes especially on their legs, and Darcy has spots on his tummy very similar to Bengal cats do.

They are both very big boys, as Bengals are, and also both very vocal and persistent in their meowing! And are both very very active and hyper.

I have no knowledge of their background, as we adopted them from the CP and nothing came with them.

They also have the same shaped faces as a Bengal, with large snouts that are quite prominent and really big, curled round whiskers, unlike the shorter snouts of British Blues etc.

Am I being a bit whimsical here or is it possible?

Re: What are the chances...

Anything's possible with moggies! It is frustrating not knowing their backgrounds, isn't it. It's possible; there are a lot of Bengals around who knows? We had a few Bengal breeders on here who haven't posted in ages; they told me Leia might be part Bengal. Size-wise and with the stripy stomach and eyes reflecting blue it might be possible, but not the energy level!! Your two sound a bit more likely....nice to think they might be..

Anakin has a spotty tum too, (Nipper had a spotty tum and she was a tabby and white) and the personality of a tiger cub. He's a little b****r, never had a kitten as absolutely insane as this. And he is a big boy, but I don't think he looks anything like a Bengal, just a tabby.

Maybe you could put some pics up and see what Bengal owners think?

Re: What are the chances...

I never realised eyes reflecting blue was one of the features! Leia does have such a nice, unique colour, it could have come from the snow-white bengals you get.

It is so hard to tell, and it is true that even if they have some features, doesn't mean they are directly descended. Basically, I know they're more Bengal than British Blue! Just due to their general build, face shape, temprament etc. My other moggie at home, Sophie, is a grey tortie and she is definately British Blue at heart: a wee snug face and snout, and grumpy to boot

I will try and get some photos of their faces, and legs (which are incredibly stripey!) I've seen quite a few tabby moggies, and these boys definately have the most pronounced stripes I've seen...

I forgot to mention their coats are also so silky to touch, very soft, which I know is another feature of Bengals. Maybe it is just wishful thinking

Nor did I until Sweeney Todd who doesn't post anymore, said so. This old pic shows it well; the light has to be just right for them to glow blue; otherwise they reflect greenish. Oddly, my blue eyed Siamese's eyes reflected brilliant red; all the others (Aby, Pura, mogs), reflected gold.
It does sound as if your two might have Bengal in the background...a good excuse for you to post more pics so we can admire them!

Re: What are the chances...

They are a gorgeous saphire blue aren't they! What a strange colour.

To be hoenst, I've been trying to get more photos but they move around far too quickly and my camera has this annoying habit of even when the flash is off, this green light comes on which makes them look away so I cant get any of them looking at the camera! There were so many good opportunities last night of Minsky chasing his ball - he does love his little soft bouncy ball so. He jumps a good few feet in the air to catch it between his paws, the carries it around in his mouth. The only thing he doesn't know how to do is to fetch Last night he jumped so high and fast he smacked into a nearby wall but didn't seem phased, as he still caught the ball!

I hasten to add, I didn't thow the ball in the direction of th wall. He's worked out how to throw it for himself. It's a strange, spongey material so he manages to catch it on his claw then swings his arm quickly and it goes flying, then he jumps after it.

Az's Cheetah (Bengal) has aqua colored eyes! Absolutely stunning; never saw that color in a cat before...I'm talking eye color, not reflecting.
How I wish you could get some pics of Minsky doing his ball dance! Is the green light an essential part of operating the camera...I was thinking maybe putting a piece of tape over it so he wouldn't realize it was on......

Re: What are the chances...

I've tried putting my finger over the green light but then the image comes out blurred. I may just steal OH's camera as I was playing around with it and it has a 'pet mode'!

There's been so many times I'd wished I'd had a camera. I know all cats jump around madly, but there's been once or twice when I couldn't believe my eyes at how high or far the boys were jumping. Minsky once soared through the air and half way across the room. And Darcy once went from sitting to a flying leap vertically upwards to landing on Minsky (play fighting). Hilarious! And just amazing, they are such agile creatures!

I'm on a mission tonight to get some good photos
