Just got a new kitten!

My eighbour has just given me his kitten cos he doesn't want it anymore. I am glad cos he wasn't treating it so well. The only problem is, I am terrified cos Benny hasn't seen him yet and I don't know how he will react. Should I protect the kitten from him or should I let the 2 of them get on with it, Benny can be quite nasty!

Re: Just got a new kitten!

Benny just met him in the kitchen! Fur up, tails like brushes but only a hiss (from Benny). Not too bad for a first meet! They are now separated by a door. The kitten is called Casper, but I will change it. I reckon he must be around 4 months old. Have noticed he does like to sharpen his claws on the furniture. I will need to nip that in the bud! If he would stay still long enough, I will get a picture.

Re: Just got a new kitten!

Congratulations on your new Kitten, i look foward to hearing more about him and Benny.
I think the only thing you can do is let them get on with it, it is scary and there is bound to be lots of hissing and spitting etc but as long as the kitten isn't getting hurt it is important for the pecking order to be established.

Agree with Shelley's good advice. Do you have a scratching post?

Re: Just got a new kitten!

Am scared! Dont want them to meet yet!! Up until now, its the wee one who is squaring up for a fight. He wants to go for Benny, but I have been on the receiving end of those talons. One swipe and the wee one wil be floored!! I dont have a scratch post, it wasnt an issue with Benny, but the wee one has started on my table, so will have to get one.
