Okay maybe not the lottery maybe a windfall what amount would make you comfortable £50,000 - £100,000 - 1/2 a million more?

And if you did win have a windfall/win what would you do with it?

Re: Lottery win

Not sure what I would do with a big win, see my kids alright, and it would mean my hubby could retire early and we could have some time together for a change...

Re: Lottery win

If it was a nice big win, I would like to move to a more rural area and also see the kids comfortable.......

Re: Lottery win

Great question, Kazz! This is going to be a long post, mulled it over while I was fixing dinner. As some of you know, I'm a retired senior citizen, no living family & no significant other, so not worried about a legacy. Fortunately I have a comfortable retirement...good investment advice & luck (being in the right place at the right time)...the mortgage long since paid off & no credit card debt. So, the first thing I'd do is hire a good tax accountant to take care of the liability to the Internal Revenue and the consequences of gift taxes. Then, donations to the Cat Rescue people, the AIDS Foundation (lost two friends and a boss to it), the Fraternal Order of Police ( one of my best buddies is a police officer) and Disabled American Veterans. Probably more charities, but these are the ones that come immediately to mind. Oh, and to Catsey, of course, if Az ever sets that up!!! Then, my one big splurge would be to hire a limousine a few times each Summer to drive me to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware for the day and back!! Mid-week to avoid the weekend traffic! And take my friends out to dinner more often. Fun to dream, isn't it...??!!

Re: Lottery win

That sounds great Eileen.
Difficult to win the lottery if you don't do it, but I suppose I could think Premium Bond win.
Actually, I don't think I want anything very desperately. Maybe do something for my parents, but I don't know what ..... a house with an annexe where they could have live in help?
Maybe something for the kids but they're OK really ... don't need anything.
There - what a contented soul I am!
Now if you are talking of huuuge amounts - £5 or £10million, I'd set up a charitable trust to provide affordable housing, on a perpetual basis ... start people into housing and hopefully move them on to allow someone else in.

Re: Lottery win

id quit living in this upstairs flat, and buy a huge campervan a *live abord* have a run made up for the boys so they can have some freedom but stay safe (they are indoors cats at the mo) and then we would travel around the continent portugal/spain/france, then here in england for the summer. and when i got too old to travel id buy a nice cottage some where quiet and just retire n enjoy the peace n quiet .
id donate to a few of my favorite charitys heart foundation n pdsa.
just do all the stuff i missed out on when i was with my nasty ex husband.
now back to reality, LOL

Re: Lottery win

What a question. We all wonder what we would do, but the erality would probably be very different. I would be happ with £50k. Enough to pay off all debts, put a little away for the kids and have a holiday of a lifetime. If I won millions I would give loads to various members of my family, set up some youth centres in some of the deprived areas I have lived in. I would set up trusts for the girls which they couldn't touch until they were 25 (make sure they had enough sense first), donate to charity and buy a nice (not huge or too fancy) house in a nice area and enjoy the rest of my life with no money worries!
