Steam irons

My ordinary iron packed up yesterday rather dramatically by fusing all the sockets in the house So today I went to John Lewis to get a replacement (absolutely must with the daily duvet cover wash courtesy of Dominik).

Well, they were doing a demo of the type of steam iron that has it's own, separate steam 'tank'. Now, I'm not one to usually be swayed by such marketing nonsense as demos, but something (other than the persuasive sales lady) prompted me to go for it. It could have been the fact that it was a 1/3 off the full price

Does anyone else have one of these? Do you find it as brilliant as I've found mine to be?? It simply eats through the ironing!!!

Re: Steam irons

Strange you should mention this Yola as my mum has just purchased a Philip one with a separate water tank, she said jeans and sheets were so easy to iron, sheets she just folds up into four and then presses the top and they are done.

What make did you go for??

Re: Steam irons

Ummm . . . runs to look at machine; Stirella - I think it's a sub-brand of Polti.

They do a superb, cork-handled industrial-looking one, but at £200 I thought that was a bit of an extravagance

Re: Steam irons

WOW £200 is a lot, my mum got hers from Makro for £49.99 + VAT and looking in the Argos book a min ago that was a bargain.

Re: Steam irons

Mine was £99 reduced from £149. I had a ceiling of £100 so it fitted the bill perfectly

Re: Steam irons

I have one. It works well (when it gets the opportunity - not my favourite occupation) but I am quite scared of the way the tank puffs and steams

Enjoy yours Yola (do you think those pull up Pampers/Huggies designed for night time could help Dominic and save you some work?)

Re: Steam irons

I have an old steam iron but I have never put water in it to make it steam!!!!!

Cant get on with steam irons cos sooner rather than later the water tank goes yukky and then all you get out of the iron is black sludgey stuff - or am I doing something wrong lol!!!!!!

I hate ironing and only do minimal stuff. No duvet covers and sheets are ironed here!!!
