Funny how things work out!

After a major fight with the local pets at home about 3 chinchillas up for adoption, researching their needs and writing a letter of complaint to head office.... We were asked to take in 2 boys in desperate need of a home!
The owners were moving to America on Friday and by Thursday still didn't have a home for them, they dropped them off on Friday morning before the drove down to Glasgow for their flight. Thankfully we know the basics about chinchilla care and have hopefully gIven them a good home.

Oh that's great news farthing.

They are the sort of animals that I didn't believe were real when I first saw them - and I wasn't a child! I thought they were a Disney invention. I look forward to pictures when they have settled in.

They are really quite cute, they love their dust baths. The biggest problem is keeping them cool, temps in the mid twenties can kill them apparently! We've just ordered bigger cages for them, the ones they came with are pretty small, we have to wait til the 14th if July but it will be well worth it, the will be nearly 3 times the size.

Not sure whereabouts they live in their natural habitat - that temperature restriction must narrow it down. Lucky creatures, they will soon have lovely big cages and loads of room.

I wondered about that too; Googled and they live in the high altitudes of the Andes mountains in South America.

Re: Funny how things work out!

Never ever understood this thing for "none domesticated pets" I feel for the animals. I am glad the ones you have "adopted" are good. What would the people who were emigrating have done if they had not found homes???? and how long do these animals live? surely if you are planning on moving to America you do not buy "small" pets in the run up. Or maybe thats just me and forward planning mode.
