Re: Poorly cat :(

Have been to the vets. My sister wanted her checked over by the vet first before pts. The vet has diagnosed an over active thyroid gland. He said to try tablets for the next 10 days to see how she gets on. He reccomended surgery to remove the tumour and her back teeth. So we're going to see how she gets on.

That's good news isn't it? Let's hope she responds to treatment. Well done for fighting her corner.

Re: Poorly cat :(

I'm over the moon. The vet said that's she not really an old cat and that having her pts at the moment with out trying treatment is a bit silly. She only weighed 2.2lb bless her she's never been very big but that's tiny x

Re: Poorly cat :(

Her heart was racing apparently so he's given tablets and with her being so hungry hiding it in her food and hand feeding will get them down. She has had a steroid injection and an anti-biotic injection. She behaved beautifully and didn't miaow once.
The vet we seen was the best one I've seen in the surgery. He seemed to know cats rather than past vets we've seen who didn't seem interested. We've got to go back in 10 days to see how she's doing.

Re: Poorly cat :(

Did the vet take a blood sample for testing?

Re: Poorly cat :(

No he didn't take a blood sample. When he said it was the thyroid I asked would it be expensive as I'm aware that's she's going to need tablets for life he didn't say anything about a blood test.

Re: Poorly cat :(

An over active thyroid can mask kidney problems, a blood test is advisable and sometimes a urine test.
The two conditions often go hand in hand.
