Cat Hair Everywhere!

So, spring is fast approaching and this will be the first spring I will have my two boys. I feel I've done a good job of keeping on top of their hair-shedding during the winter months: hoovering, hoovering the bed, hoovering the couch, dusting etc.

But I've already noticed that they (particularly Minsky) are shedding a lot more hair as it gets warmer. I've got my Furminator at the ready for a big groom soon, but I'm looking for advice for keeping on top of the hair around the flat and on my clothes!

Can anyone recommend a good clothes brush / method for keeping or getting clothes cat-hair free? As I work in an office and need to look 'smart' being covered in cat hairs isn't quite appropriate!

I'll be spring cleaning the entire flat too, and trying to remove cat hairs from the lining of curtains and also the underside of the dining table (they appear everywhere!) OH has suggested using Marigold yellow gloves to rub on the surfaces (including the bed sheets etc.) and that should bunch the hairs together to hoover off more easily.

Can anyone offer any advice on de-cat-hairing a flat (they are indoor cats hence why there is so much hair everywhere!)?

Thanks!

Re: Cat Hair Everywhere!

I use sticky rollers to get the fur off my clothes. Rubber gloves or a damp cloth for soft furnishings/bedlinen etc plus copious vacuuming

But as time's gone on I've kind of learnt to live with fur around the place. Not to say I'm a slob but after 12 years with cats I'm a little more tollerant of their shedding and less frantic about removing all traces of fur

Re: Cat Hair Everywhere!

Thanks Yola, sounds like I've got it mapped out pretty well then

I know what you mean about every speck of hair. Theres just times when it would be nice to have something entirely cat-hair free. I bought a new evening dress and wore it at the weekend. Hand washed it and hung it up to dry. Was meticulously picking off every hair as they show up really obviously as it's a shiney material that suits being 'sleek' and fresh.

But for normal jeans and jumpers I'm not as fussed. It's just a pain that they seem to stick the hardest to the material my suits are made out of Stravinsky's white hairs are set off wonderful by the black underneath!

I think those 'velvet look' clothes brushes are pretty good - and maybe more practical to carry a small one of those in your handbag than a sticky job. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes they have a twist round head, sometimes not, and you brush in one direction to collect then you can either sweep it off with your hand or twist the head and brush onto, err, something, to leave your 'collection' ready for disposal.

Meep - you may find looking at Lakeland or even (gawd 'elp us!) Kleenezee or Bettaware helpful for good gadgets. I make my OH carry 'sticky mitts' in the car, so on the odd occasion he has to look smart he can easily get the bits and hairs off himself. They come individually packed and are great.

DM great suggestion! I've been thinking about those 'velvet-look' clothes brushes, but I just haven't been able to think of where to get them. Good idea on Lakeland! Going to have to stock up on all these odds and ends!

Velour mitt

Disposables

Oh - Yola - are you still around?
Lakeland are apparently going to start up a gardening division! Imagine all the clever little doo-berries and gizmos they will come up with; also the old fashioned bits and pieces you never seem to be able to find now.

I basically use the wet cloth and hoovering tactic for hair and fur around the house and the sticky roller, but it is really a never ending task

Still here DM (on and off a bit at the mo) . . . never heard of Lakeland but following one of the links their website is strange . . . like going back 35 years to the bits my Mum used to have in the kitchen when I was little (like the tea towel holders that stick to the wall and into which you push the towel corner)!!!

Never heard of Lakeland?
I heard a lovely expression for it but have forgotten what it was precisely - the second word was porn, maybe the first was kitchen or cleaning or something!
I used to be fascinated by clothes and shoes catalogues - now I love looking at Lakeland. Ho hum.

Now, where did I leave my slippers and humbugs ....?

Don't worry DM - another Lakeland fan here - have been since before they started having shops!

As for cat hair meep, Merlin sheds but not nearly as much as he used to. I like the sticky rollers and a decent fabric brush attachment that I have on my vacuum cleaner. I have heard that ordinary rubber gloves do very well too.
