Walk....

Took the dog their usual walk yesterday, but went out earlier than normal, got to the bit where I cross the field to the bit where I see the deer and saw three men with guns....So went another way...I assume the were shooting pheasant, Further up the path I frightened 3 deer than were right near the path....I could see the men and heard 3 shots...Maybe this is the reason I have been seeing deer everyday now for the past week..I know people shoot, and accept it as part of country living, but really didn't want to watch it! First shot, Gypsy turned and high tailed it home!!
So today I will wait till my usual time to walk them....!!

Re: Walk....

...............but I'd rather eat venison from animals that have lived naturally and died swiftly, humanely and without fear, than from factory farmed creatures.
I was a non meat eater for about 14 years - until 2 years ago - and now I just do occasional organic beef or lamb from known local or Scottish sources.

I think I'd avoid the early walks though - we all know what goes on but don't necesarily want to see it........................

Re: Walk....

Where we used to keep our horses, they regularly shot pheasants. The area was over run with them. I don't know what used to spook the horses most, the gun shots or the pheasants jumping out unexpectedly from the hedgerows

I don't think I could handle seeing deer shot though

There are so many pheasants round here - some fields you would think they were actually a crop!

Re: Walk....

Years ago that bit o ground was used for shooting, there are only a handful of deer in it...Up here, in the country these people are a law unto themselves...I am sure some of them have youngstes..I was not hanging around to see!!Tara is the same colour as the deer!!!

Re: Walk....

I would hate to have witnessed any animal being shot especially deer as they are such beautiful creatures....
I would take Tara on a different route Moli
