I do not think oliver would have settled so well with us if we hadn't had at least one other cat. I have never had just one....

cats like people are very individual.It all depends on the cat.I had one persian who we had to let go as she HATED any cat near her.She is now very contented

I think that on the whole and I'm sure there are exceptions, most cats are happy on their own. I don't think they 'need' the company of other cats.

the breeder i am going to see this weekend has an older Kitten that i may be having that hates being with the other cats. she loves being with the breeder and her family but hates her mother and the other cats.

so i would say all cats are diffrent
