Feral queen, hates downstairs and her daughter!

hi guys, big hugsssssssssss, xxxx

im new here, i have a gorgeous ginger female feral whos name is fizzlecat, she was given to me 3 years ago(well actually, she was thrown out and totally abandoned) at the time the poor baby was already preggers, so i decided that i would not abort her babies but keep and/or find wonderful homes for her offspring.

Sooooo, poor Fizzlecat had a bad labour, her 1st baby was born dead, the second with his/her legs fused together,
3rd was braindamaged, and last was her daughter that i have today, DivaCat! (oh, she is soooooo a Diva!)

my problem is, that fizzle seems to hate humans!
she seems that all she has is distain for us humanoids, she also hates her daughter Diva!
poor Fizzle, i love her sooooo mulchys, she is a ginger dreamcat, dripping with honey and crunchyness, but she cowers away if you try to pet her, and hides upstairs all the time.
her daughter Diva is totally different, maybe coz i had her from day 1,
but i just want fizzle to be comfortable with us humans that invade her world, any idears guys,

thanks kaz, xxxx

Welcome to Catsey.
Poor Fizzle, sadly she may never come round to being a friendly cat but you could try things like feliway diffusers, feliway sprays, rescue remedy etc. These may help her feel a little less stressed and a little more comfortable in her surroundings. There is also a food supplement available from vets to help ease stress called Zylkene. When a cat is under stress it also uses up alot of B vitamins, so a supplement of them might be beneficial but please always talk these things over with a knowledgable vet first.

Poor Fizzle! What a shame about her others kits. Has she been spayed since?

I have no experience of feral cats, so can't advise. Sorry.

hi Elain, xxxx

thankz so much for your reply, x
i will check out the feliway/rescue remedy for Fizz, she is such a lovely lady, if us Humanoids are upstairs in her Domain, all is well, she is loving, cuddly and a totall sweety, she will snug up at night and stay till morning.
But, she seems to be a complete wreck when she ventures downstairs, (i feed her on the landing now so i know she gets food)
Fizzle has no problems with my 2 dogs, she actually rules the roost, and swipes and hisses at my doggies and her own child Divacat, poor Diva, she clings to me like im her mom, its so sad, but the strange thing is that Fizzle loves my pet FancyRats! they also live upstairs, and you would think that a cat would love to rip them to shreds, but not so! the rats can run around and fizzle and diva seem to love them, like sniff and play with them, very strange, i seem to have wierd animals, lol bless and love them all, kaz, x

hi angieh, x

yes. she has been spayed, and shortly after she was run over and suffered a broken pelvis and paralysis, i have worked voluntary for Animal Hostels so i know what to expect, the vet wanted to put Fizz to sleep, but i insisted that she have a 2nd chance, it took 8 weeks of expressing her bladder and bowel manually, i played the waiting game, and was fully prepared to let het go, if all else failed,
but god smiled on Fizz, and made me smile too, me an Fizz got really close and bonded, but she still wont come downstairs, perhaps she hates me, for what i had to do to save her?
maybe im the problem, x

Fizz doesnt hate you, she just needs you to try to understand her. Difficult, I know.
I too have a DIVA incidentally
So what exactly happens when Fizz and the Diva come face to face?
Would love to see some pictures of them all.

Re: Feral queen, hates downstairs and her daughter!

If she was truly feral you've come a long way in bringing her out of her fear/distrust of people. I agree the Feliway and Rescue Remedy are a good idea. The fear of downstairs...did anything traumatic happen to her there at any time? Apparently the upstairs is her comfort zone .... I'd let her stay there if she were my cat. Can't think of why she dislikes her daughter so; some cats simply don't like other cats. Very odd that she interacts so well with the dogs and rats.

Re: Feral queen, hates downstairs and her daughter!

Good Morning, x

Fizzle was a great mum, she suckled Diva till she was 18 weeks old, then turned on her, at the moment, Fizz just completly ignors Diva, i think Fizz lost confidence after the accident, she has no interest in going out anymore.
,
she still walks like a feral, head down, very low,
then speeds up as she passes anyone, Diva seems to stay downstairs most of the time, but sometimes Diva will snuggle up to Fizz when she is asleep,

i dont think anything has happened downstairs to make her scared, after her accident, i had to keep her in a cage for 8weeks, in the front room, maybe she just has bad memorys of that time.

il go and find some pics of the girls, x

I can't offer a thing to help with your particular problem but I wonder if you've read Cat Confidential by Vicky Halls. She is soo clever at cat psychology and might give you some ideas for helping your situation.
Good luck
