Claim to fame thread

Following some silliness in the Bah humbug thread I thought it might be fun to start a thread where we all say what our 'claim to fame' is. Can be something as silly as bumping into a famous person right through to something stupendous like BEING a famous person!!! Or something completely different . . . me first

1. My cousin and her husband were married by Cardinal Karol Wojtila (the late Pope JPII)

2. I was at art school with Robert Plant's daugther, Carmen.

3. I was at (a different) art school with John Galliano

4. I went to Ronnie Wood's 40th birthday party (coz his brother Arthur used to do photographic retouching on a freelance basis at the 1st design studio I worked in). BTW - Arthur was in 'The Art Woods' (a jazz band) and was/is the most amazing harmonica player!!

5. There is lots more minor celeb stuff from my days at B&O when we used to do product launches and store openings but I won't bore you with that!!

Ummm - so that's it for now!!

Re: Claim to fame thread

My best one...

My ex-husband and I were staying in a hotel in Scotland which had a real kind of Edwardian house-party atmosphere - drinks before dinner in the drawing room, guests encouraged to socialise, etc. Well, the first evening we were there, I wondered into said drawing room and saw 2 ladies playing Scrabble. One looked a bit familiar, but I didn't think anything of it... then the dark lady appealed to me on a point of spelling (she was wrong) and the blonde lady introduced them both "I'm Frances, this is Holly" (obviously both American). I *still* didn't twig until another American couple saw them at breakfast the next morning and went completely overboard. I corrected Holly Hunter's spelling! (she's *tiny* in real life!)

Re: Claim to fame thread

  • I was married by the great great whatever grandson of the poet Coleridge.
  • I stood in the breakfast buffet line between Martin Johnson and Laurence Dallalio (and felt very tiny)
  • Have shaken hands with Princess Anne
  • saw Auberon Waugh on a cross channel ferry
  • ummm, other sporty ones you'd probably be bored with
  • am a member of the best forum on the web

Re: Claim to fame thread

Pete Waterman and family lived next door to one of my aunt and uncles for many years, i can remember their house was very nice
One of my other aunts went out with someone from 'The Specials', that was before i came along tho
I once bumped into Zandra Rhodes (sp) whilst shopping with my parents in London a few years back.
My great-great grandparents (long since passed) lived in Birmingham next door to Black Sabbath bassist Terrence 'Geezer' Butler and his family when he was growing up.

1) My father's side of the family are distant relations of the Needler Sweet Company.
2) I have been kissed on the cheek by Ed (Stewpot) Stewart!
(I don't expect the younger members know who he is )

Re: Claim to fame thread

* I met Darius & he sang a live gig at my workplace.

* I met Johnny Vaughn at crufts & was chatting to him.

*I met Princess Alexandra a few years ago (92) when she officially opened the Guide Dog breeding centre where I work

Ok ok - I know they are not very famous but it's the best I can do
