Re: 1 year old baby with kidney failure :'(

OK, I will, definitely. Thanks for your PM's, I wasn't sure whether you sent them for future or if I should call tonight, I never call people after 9pm lol.

I must admit that I nearly contacted a different vet earlier as I also wondered if he should be on a drip.... I will let you know what happens.

And thank you again I am very grateful.

Call me anytime before 11pm . You dont have to if you dont want to but sometimes it helps to talk to some one.
I really really hope Charlie will be ok and that the second opinion can get him back on track. xxx

Re: 1 year old baby with kidney failure :'(

my boy was immediately put on a drip after his blood tests confirmed renal failure, and he was released the next day, but its only upon further research i saw that it reccommends they stay on a drip and have blood tests before they are allowed home. good that he is interested in food and water.

Re: 1 year old baby with kidney failure :'(

Thanks for your reply lynz85 and everyone, I have just spoken with Elaine and am going to get a second opinion tomorrow as it looks as though Charlie really should be (should HAVE BEEN) on a drip, poor little boy

I will come back tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Thank you all for your help and especially Elaine for letting me phone and talk xxxxx

Re: 1 year old baby with kidney failure :'(

I was just reading this thread and thinking 'why wasn't he admitted for IV fluids?! ' I'm glad you are seeking a second opinion an hopefully a repeat blood and urine sample to keep a close eye on the level of azotemia (levels of nitrogenous waste compounds within the blood) and the kidney's ability to concentrate the urine.
I would also ask whether they have an alternative renal diet or any other low protein diet available as it is important that he eats something. If he is being supported with fluids he could even eat small amounts of his normal diet along with a low protein alternative.
I'm glad you have spoken to Elaine as she's the expert.
Hope little Charlie feels better soon. xx
