Croatia - Dubrovnik

We had two glorious weeks of sunshine at the same hotel we visited two years ago in Croatia....... nothing had changed, it was still as beautiful as we remembered.

Our room .....

Overlooking the Adriatic Sea and the Elaphite Islands.....

Cruise liners regularly passing by heading for Dubrovnik ....

Off to the next port of call....

Yo-ho-ho trip!.......

Dubrovnik Old Harbour .......

Narrow passages in the Old Town.....

Minceta Tower , highest point of the City Walls....

St Blaise Church ....

Bell Tower - the huge bell in the tower weighs over 2,000 kilos ....

Mouth watering orange trees provide shade from the sun in a nearby park...

The old harbour ....

Ship ahoy! Looking through the hotel reception's porthole windows ....

We didn't attempt the tiring 2km walk along the walls of the Old Town this year, it was so hot that it would have been far too uncomfortable.

As usual, there are are still many unfortunate stray cats looking for scraps of food. The majority of the ones we saw had very sore looking weeping eye conditions. Unfortunately, the conditions will be passed on from generation to generation and will be difficult to control.

One of the healthier looking cats ....

The less fortunate ones ....

Our balcony provided us with a great view of beautiful sunsets .....

It's the Valamar Dubrovnik President Hotel, Kazz

We have been there twice and love it there, it's about a 20 min bus ride from the hustle and bustle of Dubrovnik Old Town ...... built on the edge of the peninsula at Babin Kuk in a countryside setting. There is a bus stop practically outside the hotel which takes you to the gate of the Old City. There are also some nice country walks along the sea edge.

If you want to know anything else about it, let me know

In 2010 we travelled with Thomsons from Gatwick as there were no flights from Bristol to Dubrovnik.

This year we did a flexi trip ....... our travel agent booked the flight and the hotel separately, leaving from Gatwick again. What that meant was they booked us seats on a BA flight and we were met at Dubrovnik airport by a private taxi to take us to the hotel. By doing it that we didn't have the services of a hotel rep like previously but that didn't bother us as we had been there the year before.

I've just had a look at the Thomson brochure and it appears they do not cover that hotel anymore. Your best bet would be to visit a couple of Travel Agents and tell them you would like a quote for that hotel, they will check all the brochures for you........ you may have a fight going from Birmingham even. The flight from Gatwick took 31/4 to 31/2 hours.

I know Easy Jet have started doing trips to Dubrovnik now.
