A chelsea bun is a bun...hmm how doyou describe it....I suppose the nearest equvilant is a Cinnamon sweet sticky buns. And I suppose gammon would be on par with your smoked ham, gammon is actually leg of pork.

Re: Saturday Sunshine?

This is a fairly good description of a Chelsea Bun - they are enriched dough with fruit (not sure about candied peel, as I don't like that much!)

"An individually-sized yeast-cake, filled with a mixture of dried and candied peel. They were particularly popular during the 18th and 19th century, when London's 'Chelsea Bun House' was a favourite meeting place."

They are sort of rolled up a bit like a Swiss roll ......... and are generally de........licious!

Told you I was old Tink!

Excellent descriptions of the Chelsea bun ........ put it all together and this is the end result!

Definitely one of my favourite cakes, especially with loads of spices in it!

Re: Saturday Sunshine?

Thanks Mags - good picture. They have many similarities with a Hot Cross Bun, and yet taste quite different!

Re: Saturday Sunshine?

They look quite similar to our pecan twirls ... cinamonny, but with nuts, no fruit. Delicious!

I put a quarter of a teaspoonful of dried cinnamon in my stewed apples too.
