Pom poms Love it lol... Never heard that term for the 'gruesome twosome' before...

Most vets 'will' neuter male cats at 5 months, like you said Angie, nothing there to get hold of earlier than that lol... But varies from vet to vet...

Our CP vet will neuter and spey our kittens before they go to their new homes, usually about the 12 week mark. And they seem to recover much more quickly

Re: My kitten wandered out for one day and is now back. What should I do?

It's possible, Adam. Rare, but possible. This might be helpful:
  • Heat, oestrus, and estrus all refer to heat cycles in cats.
  • The breeding season in cats lasts almost year-round.
  • Heat cycles can start as early as four or five months in a female kitten.
  • Heat cycles in cats last from several days to two weeks or more
  • Heat cycles in cats repeat every two to three weeks until the cat is spayed or becomes pregnant.
  • Heat cycles may cause pain or discomfort in cats.
Glad you've booked her in!

You've done the right thing I suspect.
