why do they do it when it makes them sick?

Sookie's just come in and left a few piles of grass under the table for me why can they never be sick in one place either!

Re: Cats eating grass

Cat's don't eat grass for nutritional purposes. It helps a cat's digestive process by inducing regurgitation of undigested matter. It can also aid in removing furballs through vomiting before they become large and unmanageable.

It is far better to see a furball on the carpet than for a cat to suffer with blocked intestines...

Other cats, especially indoor cats, may just nibble on blades of grass as they find them palatable.

My cat Cassie is quite a scavenger outdoors and frequently leaves me parcels to clean up in the morning! She also has a tray of cat grass to nibble on indoors.

As Mags says, grass is good for cats' digestion. Both my two like eating it.

Re: Cats eating grass

And some cats just like to eat it, without throwing up, kitty salad? My Leia is indoors, but I pick her some grass every day (weather permitting) and she never throws up. She's 11 and has never had a furball, believe it or not.
