Cat Carrier Sizes

Hi guys,

Looking at my quickly growing kitten,

I just wondered, how do you determine when or if you need a bigger carrier?

When you look at most sites they just say whether or not they are recommended for cats. Taking the cat to try them out isn't much of an option either

When determining the size carrier needed what are you taking into consideration?

Re: Cat Carrier Sizes

I always buy the biggest carrier they sell - but then I only adopt oldies. It certainly came in use when I got Tom, he wouldn't have fit in teh normal size ones!!! Only downside is my small girls look lost in the large ones, so luckily we have had smaller ones donated.

I have to agree with BT i have alway bought a big carrier due to the fact that ebony always freaks out in small spaces but in a big carrier she is a happy little kitty.

Re: Cat Carrier Sizes

I have 3 cat carriers, all slightly different sizes but I have never had a really small one as I think they are a waste of time. If you are planning to only have one then I would be inclined to go for a bigger one - at least then there will be room for an adult cat to turn round and get comfy.. My new carrier opens on the front and on the top. I would recommend buying one with a top opener, it's so much easier than a front opener

Re: Cat Carrier Sizes

When I got the Stitch he was 12 weeks old and quite small so I had at that time bought an Atlas 10 from PAH, for a few reasons: firstly I needed it in a hurry and secondly had no real concept of size but it looked fine for him then and thirdly I had spent that much that day I was into damage limitation on the card.

I'm sure he can still get in it and lie down in it but not so sure about sitting up or moving around, I was more concerned about cramping him.

My trips to the vet are very short 5 mins at most but its the waiting there.

I'll try him in it when I get home but it was more of a general question.

Thanks

Re: Cat Carrier Sizes

I have three, all large size, from when I had three cats. Some of them were quite large cats, so that gave them room enough to turn around and stretch. And, the kittens grew quickly....
