Severe weather and cats

Jack is 7. He came to us on christmas eve. Not a gift a long planned arrival from a family member.
He decided he didn't like this prolonged length of cold weather and snow. So decided not to go out. But being a clean cat didn't like to go indoors either. When eventually going out and finally relieving himself came in screaming in pain. Emergency midnight visit to the vets. Ended up with severe cystitis spending several days at the vets with drips, catheters, painkillers ( he was screaming in pain) final vets bill £2700.00
With on going medication for the rest of his life.

THE MORAL TO THIS STORY IS.
PUT YOUR BRAIN INTO GEAR
IN SEVERE WEATHER PUT A CAT LITTER TRAY DOWN AND SAVE YOUR PET A LOT OF PAIN
SECONDLY MAKE SURE HE IS INSURED.
THANKFULLY FAMILY MEMBER WAS STILL PAYING INSURANCE WHICH WE ARE NOW TAKING ON

Wow that was a harsh start to new ownership. Glad he is ok. Once you get his food stabilised, Colitis is very liveable with. Just don't be tempted ever to change his diet & beware of treats x

Poor cat, I do hope he can be kept comfortable.

You are right - put your brain in gear and think about your pet's basic needs. You have learned the hard way.

That's one heck of a baptism of fire One of my cats suffered with recurring cystitis (as do I) and its no joke, trust me. I'm pleased that your cat has come out the other side of this ordeal . . . Thanks so much for raising awareness of it.
