Spring is really here!

The grey catbird is back! Went out to water the tomatoes this morning and my catbird was singing away like mad in the bushes! Couldn't get a pic of him, but here's what he looks like. They've been nesting in my yard for years...this is probably the great great great grandson of the original one. They migrate South for the Winter, so I know that Spring is really truly here now! http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...RY/CATBIRD.JPG

Re: Spring is really here!

You know I would if I could, Alex! The catbirds are in the mimic thrush family (think mockingbirds, which I'm sure you've heard of). They're called catbirds because they often make a mewling cry which sounds exactly like a cat! I've been fooled a few times by them, thinking there was a cat in distress in my garden! A nice bird to have in a cat person's garden!

He sings; she doesn't. And the fledglings are so cute when they are learning to fly; they're not too good at it to begin with; wouldn't let Sultan or Misty out in the garden even on their leads! Dandy couldn't have cared less! Bless him. he wasn't a hunter!
